the new Normandie permanent camo makes her look like a tugboat.

It's meant to evoke the SS Normandie ocean liner:

I think painting the turrets red was perhaps a bit too much of that color.

The French Communist Party was demanding concessions.  It seemed a small thing at the time...

Why would we want a warship to look like an ocean liner?

Why not? We already have ships looking like diseased abominations from Papa Nurgle and ships looking like east-German night clubs.

It looks cool, but what does it do for the ship? Even the website does not seem to go into this part of it. I have little doubt that grinding out the Omaha hard will fulfil the mission requirements in short order (and to make things even better, you can do them in Co-op), but going that extra mile to earn the necessary ribbons every night or delving also into the battleship or destroyer requirements might only be justifiable if there is a tangible gain at the end. Just having a pretty boat won't cut it.

^This. And it evokes a bit of actual nautical history with a visual shout-out to her namesake.

The SS Normandie and RMS Queen Mary kept trading the Blue Riband between 1935-37 for the fastest Transatlantic crossing.

the Normandie took the Blue Riband from the Bremen before the Queen Mary took it from her.  Normandie retook the Riband from the Queen Mary before Queen Mary took it for good in 1938.

queen mary’s Record would last until the United States took the Blue Riband permanently in 1952 and she currently still holds the record for the fastest transatlantic crossing.    She is currently rotting away in Philadelphia looking for someone to save her from the breakers.

I think the red turrets were an enormous mistake - it would have looked worlds better with white turrets. Also, while I understand and appreciate that it's a homage to the SS Normandie, buff oceanliner funnels are the only way to go:

Because Normandie is a fake ship, so why not try to make it look like a real ship? lol!

I think that it looks good. I'd like to get that look for all of my French ships.

The ship that looks like a Tugboat, (or Tuna Boat) profile wise, is Katori.
