Special Mods -- How do they work?

Acquired my first Tier VIII ship that can mount the Defensive AA Fire Mod 1 that has been sitting in my Inventory for a while.  It will mount in Slot 2 in place of the Damage Control System Mod 1.

The description says, "+20% to duration of Defensive AA Fire."

The ship also has either DAAF or Hydro consumable.

So if I select the Hydro consumable, does the special module do anything?

You need to select defensive AA in order to benefit from the special mod.

No, it won't.

If you mount the Def AA Mod 1, you need to equip the ship with DAAF consumable to make use of it - as the mod extends the activation of that consumable only.

Taking the hydro consumable in place of DAAF would not make use of that special mod.

However, should you have the special mod for hydro and mounted it on the ship, then the hydro consumable would be the useful choice.

Same goes for all the special mods - spotter plane, radar, smoke, speed boost - you need to equip the ship with the relevant consumable to make use of the mod.

Does that all make sense?
