People are all for telling everyone to not name and shame, and no one gives them crap for doing so. Admittedly I'm a minority there, but the combination of nimbleness, troll bow armor and 10 tubes of freedom-delivering 203mm bald eagle launchers appealed to me. I am concerned about how badly they'll have to nerf her to put her at tier 6. I'm not going to get all doom and gloom about her before we see what happens to her, but I'm not going to get excited until we see it either because I don't see how they are going to balance Pensacola against other tier 6 cruisers without nerfs that seriously undermine her playability. They all have similar hp except for Nurnberg is pretty low. Armor is...well, they're tier 6 cruisers. Pensacola doesnt get torps but none of these ships are particularly torp heavy...Aoba gets 10km torps but only fires aft, La Gal gets decent 9km torps but only 3 per side, Leander's torps are good, but Nurn and Budyonny require you to be within suicide range to use. Aoba: 6 203mm guns, 10km torpedoes but the firing arc sucks. Leander: 8 152mm guns, AP only, smoke, good torps. Nurnberg: 9 155mm guns, 6km torps, fragile as a newborn duck made of glass perched on the edge of a cliff. La Galissonniere: Let's not even discuss this dumpster fire. La Gal is dead to me. Budyonny: 9 152mm railguns of firestarting doom, 4km torps. Pensacola: 10 203mm guns, no torps. How do you balance Pensacola against the other tier 6 cruisers without such a severe nerf that it erodes her playability? I mean, you can drop her ROF to every 20 seconds...but that's going to make her not fun. You can raise her concealment back to pre-buff level of 15.7km...but then she gets deleted by every BB on the map. I am withholding judgment until I see what Wargaming does with her, but I know if I worked at WG and my boss told me "we're moving Pensacola to tier 6, it's your job to balance her without her being hilariously OP, but she still needs to be fun to play" I'd be so stumped that I'd leave the office early and go get hilariously drunk. If they leave Pensacola the way it is, she'll be a butcher. And I'll love it personally. But I don't think they'll leave her the way she is, and if they do she'll be so OP that they'll nerf her into oblivion within weeks of release. The only tier 6 cruisers on that list that would be even close to Pensacola, assuming two players of equal skill, are Leander and Budyonny. I had a different experience w/Nurnberg but fire starting was easier when I ran it up the line (lots of ship have become more fire resistant due to commander skills that didn't exist back then) used to stand on par w/Budyonny as a railgun of fire starting doom w/faster ROF...albeit better when going away from enemy as the double turrets are in the back but the double racks of torps made close encounters much more enjoyable. As for the glassy duck analogy that is more befitting of the Leander (as well as every other Brit CL...although the Fiji is just plane brutal w/insane maneuverability to make up for it)...If it wasn't for the smoke to hide in Leander would be an insta delete every battle (as well as all other Brit CLs). Helena may not be as recognizable as Arizona, Bismarck or Yamato, but did have a pretty interesting career, starting with the Pearl Harbor attack, being called out by Tokyo Rose as a machine gun cruiser, first to fire proximity fuse AA shells, and figuring prominently in radar usage (or mis-usage) during some epic Guadalcanal battles. Pensacola will see the EXACT same ships as a T6 it saw as a T7 with 1 exception = no T9's. So other than no longer seeing T9's the ship will see no change in MM tiers. T7 Pensacola sees T5/T6/T7/T8/T9. The down tiered T6 Pensacola will see T5/T6/T7/T8. So how does this make it a butcher at T6? It will still see those same T5-T8 ships it always did but it will do so after having the nerf sledgehammer taken to it. The T6 Pensacola will actually be WORSE vs all the ships it will still see than it was facing those ships as it's current T7 self. I think a better way to say it would be "it will be butchered as a T6". And no I am not excited for it. It was a bad T7 that would have been a poor-mediocre T6 if moved as is. Now that they are nerf hammering it the ship will be even worse in the T6 version than it was as the T7. The only things that change with this downier are not seeing those T9's anymore and a big nerf to it's abilities. I don't see how it being a T6 suddenly makes it good? IMO it will actually be worse.
