A solution to fix broken smoke

After having played the new French Scenario a few times, a new idea came to mind. Since the Thunderstorm anomaly bubble can move and it has stat reduction characteristics, could the same accuracy reduction mechanic be applied to destroyers that are hiding in smoke? there is nothing more irritating to most players than being blasted by a DD with 50 HP just lobbing shells out of smoke and getting tons of damage. smoke is NOT meant to be a mobile fortress and this has been stated many times, but WG has yet to come up with a viable solution to prevent smoke from being a completely broken mechanic. if we could apply a hefty accuracy nerf to DD accuracy when smoke has been deployed, it would go a long way to balance a necessary but unbalanced mechanic. when in smoke you have ZERO direct line of sight, so why are DDs allowed to relentlessly make 100% accurate shots out of smoke, when all they "theoretically" have to rely on are radio transmissions of coordinates? DDs are not the only problem though, Battleships are still able to stay completely hidden in smoke even after the smoke nerfs, so an accuracy nerf across the board would not nerf any one ship, or any one line and tick off prem ship purchasers.

If WG can make a thunderstorm reduce accuracy and move across a screen, then there should be no reason that the same mechanic can't be applied inside the borders of smoke clouds.

just a though. fire away

Smoke is not a mobile fortress, and those who use it as such are quickly reminded that it is not by the various anti fog tools such as.

Radar

Torpedoes

Hydro

Do we really need more tools or mechanics inhibiting smoke firing? In my opinion no.

And BB's can't really hide in smoke unless they are not firing . If smoke could conceal a CV  in real life, why should it not conceal a battleship whose main guns are silenced?

True but then you've sort of got to apply the same logic to ships firing over islands then, don't you?

As for smoke being a "mobile fortress", here's what happened to me in a Minotaur a few days ago when I allowed myself to briefly become detected before the smoke deployed:

One salvo from Alsace into my "mobile fortress" and that was it for me.

??? you don't know a DD can block it's own los? and if a DD is hitting you 100% of the time why are you not using your w a s d key's  or making sure another player is spotting ? or is it you are  really wanting invis fire back ?

WG has been given a number of solutions to "fix" smoke, and implemented one of them, the one we suffer with currently. My favorite fix would be to make EVERY ship that fires while in smoke and within detection range of another ship to be visible for a length of time based on that ships gun caliber. An easy calculation would be it's gun caliber divided by 20, in seconds. Therefore a Tachibana with 76 mm guns would be visible for 3.8 seconds while a Yamato would be visible for 23 seconds. I have suggested this multiple times and the ONLY answer I got was WoW doesn't want ships appearing and disappearing too often; because that never happens in matches right now.

Definitely not a mobile fortress

Using smoke to farm damage has huge risks

Both points above summed up in this video.

WG probably going to expand on the mechanic. The same mechanic can increase accuracy/decrease dispersion for targets illuminated by radar. Feels like this new mechanic is going to make an appearance in future radar/cv updates. For example, spotted by radar, take more shells to the face, encourages "assists" and "focus fire". Similar mechanic in WoT, ie tracking a target.

smokes broken now too?  the forum today -- wasssup.  Its like everything is broke...smokes broke, CVs are broke (well yeah -- they were broke -- but they were broke at the time of game release), bow waves broke, stern wakes broke, torpedo wakes broke, shell splash size is broke, French BB armor is broke, John Doe has a brokeback name, super crates are busted, MM is broke, emblems are broke, ship ramming is broke ...dang.

Someone should start a thread about the 1 or 2 things that aren't broke.

LOL, this would destroy DD's as a class except for the Jap branch. They would have to give a blanket +20% range buff to all DD's guns/torpedos to keep them viable.

The average intelligence of players who main each ship class. Most players of each class reside in between the following ranges:

BB: IQ 85-105

CL/CA: IQ 95-105

DD: IQ 100-110

CV:IQ 100-115

Lol, j/k... But i bet there would be a  slight difference though.

Or you can give all ship 42kts speed and healing and I would not need smoke. Akizuki going 42kts + speed...my god that will be fun

There's something in this game that isn't broke? What might that be? Even this forum doesn't work with internet explorer. I thought I was banned, but then I switched to edge.

The USN was experimenting with air delivered smoke screens -- pre WWII.  I'm wondering if the above image is an example.

OP its called a game for a reason.  There are tons of ships that are balanced for smoke firing.  Its not going to go away.  Learn to shoot back into the smoke and hit them.

You would not want to play a simulator.  Get over it or play something else.
