Optimizing Admiral Horneé

Let us talk about Admiral Horneé and his eventual place as the captain of our Republic Tier X

You won't be able to get three level four skills AND use both of his special abilities.  I was considering Fire Prevention, AFT, and Concealment but I have to give up one of those if I want both turnier turrets and enhanced rage.  I'm considering giving up AFT and using BFT instead so that I get that xtra point for both Level 2 skills instead.

What are your thoughts on this?

Normally I prefer 3xT4 BB CMDRs but looking at the "specialist" skills available I'll probably go with the following 2xT4 +5 build.

PT - EM - SI - CE, AFT - AR, HA - PM

Of course I still need to finish unlocking him. Need 1 more item or 5 more dupes then I'm done.

---

8km base secondaries, great! Why not boost them even further. PM to further assist in keeping then active.

18km base concealment.. Looks like Stealth might be important to build for. Islands aren't always around.

High Alert, if you're staying stand off-ish you can use DCP more frequently, as the ships most likely to light you on Fire must be significantly close to the 1st Line of ships. You're French, you'll want a good retreat vector... and be on the 2nd Line.

IF I could live without PT or PM, HA would turn into either BFT or BoS or potentially Vig. Considering that the modified concealment is still a large area, "guessing" where the DD that is spotting you is significantly more difficult than it is on a ship with lower Detectability.

The Richelieu and Alsace are secondary builds.

As for the Republique, I went  with PT/EM/AR/BFT/SI/CE/AFT using Jean-Jacques Honore. I don't feel she as strong as Alsace in secondary build to go in full ham due to her main turret placement.  There's another build I'm considering  loose the CE for MFC AA.  Thoughts?

fyi using Jean-Jacques Honore my reloads on mains got down to 17-16 seconds.

If you're running into a fair number of CVs MFCAA would be an okay swap for CE.

If Honoré didn't have 2xT2 skills I'd have recommended a 3xT4 build with CE, AFT, MFCAA or MFCSB.

If you're keeping ranges between 17-26km you can afford to drop CE for MFCAA. But if you're playing tighter to your DD and CACL escorts having the lower Detectability combined with CSM1 is probably the better choice. It would allow you to get that fraction closer under stealth without revealing your presence.

You've got the exact same surface detection as a Yamato; so if you're div'ed with on built for Concealment, you can stay roughly 2km behind it and be detected from the same spot. Also your mutual AA should be decent defense against Strike Wings.

Although IF you're "babysitting" a Yamato, your negating the French's strength of speed.

You read my mind. If i do drop CE from my Captain I would then take Target acquisition so as to spot torps and DD sooner. especially hiding in their smoke.
