LOL, I was just playing an operation with a DD and was out in the middle of nowhere, far from any enemy ships and had not been spotted since just after leaving the spawn point. However, the AI CV sent planes directly to me. They didn't even search around, just flew in a straight path.

Raptor spawns in H2 and just sits there until the third wave of ships attacking the aerodome appears, after which Raptor and it's two escorts move in with the third wave. If you get near Raptor the Cleveland and the DD will move to intercept, and Raptor will send it's DBs after you. You don't even have to spot it for this to happen, just be in the general vicinity.

I am convinced that the enemies in operations are using aimbots

Pretty much...

WG is giving a big fat bird to anyone who tries to deal with Raptor the way it should be dealt with; this in combination to a second big fat bird to anyone who wants to use a carrier in the T7 Ops, or a destroyer in any of the Ops.

Instead; you are expected to fight your way through a swarm of essentially unopposed air squads, in an attempt to sink a carrier so far away you barely have time to do so.

Which is why I used an exploit I read about here in the forum, and started boosting north with my destroyers to nuke that Cleaveland that comes in from the East.

Fun times watching that sucker eat a bellyful of torps.

Tell me about it, trying to attack only the Wyoming in that first group of three BBs gets Saipan's TBs shredded on approach. The New Mex, and the Pensacola, I kinda expect to lose planes against, but losing planes to the NY and Wyoming's AA bubbles, and T9 planes at that, just completely deflates me.

Those BBs have unnatrual AA being able to take out 2/3 TBs before one even drops on the lowest tiered ship there. Sadly, Hiryuu's T6 TBs don't fare any better.

The CV is supposed to be taken care of by battleships in the north. I wouldn't doubt at all that they discourage cutting corners on the operation. Besides, it's not too hard to do the right way, and there are better things for DDs to be doing.

The Raptor isn't hard to kill with a CV, you just have to wait until it moves away from it's starting location and it's escorts.

Never saw it go anywhere without that Cleveland in close attendance, until it was too late to be meaningful any more.

From what I've seen, eventually the escorts head north, and the Raptor will head east, about 3 or 4 min before the end of the match, easy for a Kaga or Hiryu to nuke it

So you screw around most of the match scouting and avoiding DF cruisers, hoping said DF cruisers don’t wipe out your planes if you try to attack anything; waiting for the carrier to be alone?

Nope, I spend a good chunk of the time ensuring that the targets the Aerodrome calls out get destroyed, and if a battleship doesn't kill the Raptor, I've got a last chance to kill it once it's alone, provided I haven't been forced to kill Cleveland's, Atlanta's, and anything else team has chosen to ignore.

This.  If you don't have an AA cruiser near the base in the flight path for the Raptors planes, you're doing it wrong.  Usually the raptor is an easy kill after dealing with its escort, its very considerate in turning broadside for you when it runs.  This is one of the better missions, as it is either a total loss or a 5 star 9 times out of 10 even with weekend teams.

In Operation Ultimate Frontier, as a CV, my flight ops usually runs as follows:

Fighters spot the initial DD's, torp and dive bombers drop on the New Mexico.

After the initial DD's are dead, the fighters hang out near the repair base, intercepting the Raptor's bombers, spotting DD's for a while, ect... They'll remain here most of the game, shifting around as needed.

Second strike is against the Battleships, Pensacola or in an emergency, the Cleveland. (I had to do that one tonight, as both Fiji's on the team we happy shelling the New York instead of a broadside Cleveland)

Next strike or two time permitting is against single cruisers down south, or god forbid and the BB's derped, the Atlanta. (It's been a while since I've needed to kill the Atlanta, thankfully)

Next two or three strikes are against the targets designated by the Aerodrome, hopefully it's not another Cleveland.(Thank you Fiji's, for shelling the Colorado instead of the target you were supposed to)

If things go well, I'll get a strike or two against targets of opportunity, If things went stupid, I'm stuck trying a last ditch drop on the Raptor, which is pretty much out of everything by this point.  (and yes, I've had several stupid runs this week, and been stuck killing the Ranger too)

If the team has a clue, I don't have to go through the insanity to get 5 stars out of it. I've seen more of those "special" teams as of late. The one ray of sunshine this time around, I think was on Thursday, had a KGV driver announce it was his first time in the operation, ask for direction, we told him what to do, he got the job done, and he got all 5 stars out of it.
