So imagine we could have WoWS 2 covering years from 1890 to 1921
WG would be able to reuse some of the ships models !

Best thing - no CVs but we get battle cruisers

Ship types:

  • Battleships
  • Battle Cruisers
  • Cruisers
  • Destroyers
  • and Subs would still be too slow? :cap_popcorn:

Countries: - we seem to have more choices here !
Obviously some countries may not have all lines...

  • Austro-Hungary (Battleship Tegetthoff at tier 8 and "Ersatz Monarch" at Tier 10?)
  • South America - 7 BB, so enough for own line
  • Great Britain (Warspite at tier 10?)
  • Germany (Koenig Albert at tier 6?)
  • Russian empire (Imperator Nikolai at tier 10? :cap_rambo:), trolling here
  • USA
  • Italy
  • France
  • Japan
  • Spain ?
  • Ottoman empire? Would they have enough ships? They did fight with Russians in the black sea

Ottoman ships would be interesting, though lacking in some types. The dreadnoughts they ordered around WW1 were seized by Britain. Others would be ships similar to Imperial Germany as they gave some to the Ottomans such as the Battle-cruiser Goeben which was given to the Ottomans and renamed Yavuz. Still, this is an interesting thing I could get behind.

Yes, and no CVs! Whoo hoo. Would love to play this.

But  I bet data is simply gone for so many ships of that era -- penetration, armor schemes, etc.

That game would be too similar to this one, however I could see them doing a game based on the 1500's (or 1600's, 1700's etc). Of course there would of course be  some sort of Russian nuclear powered flying frigate with radar and lazerz [sic].

These are some great ideas guys! I'm sure there are many players who would like to play some of these gaming ideas. I definitely would. Thanks for sharing.

Exactly. Better have it range from the early to late 1800s. In this way they could take in the latter age of sail and advance into armored steamships.

I don't think so. Seems we have lots to like

  • No CVs
  • No Radar
  • Maybe Sonar?
  • 10 Nations
  • Battle cruisers
  • High tiers will play like tier 5/6 in WoWS - sounds great.

Might want to look here for some ideas.

This system uses 9 tiers with ships starting at around 1890 up through 1914 so it doesn't go into the Dreadnought era too far. I does however cover all of the eight major powers of the age (England, France, United States, Japan, Imperial Russia, Germany, Italy, Austro-Hungaria) as well as a lot of smaller powers (Spain, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Greece, Ottoman Empire, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, The Netherlands and China).   Classifications are broken down much like WOWS, Battleships (mostly Pre-Dreadnoughts but with tier 8 and 9 being early Dreadnoughts), Cruisers (Armored Cruisers, Protected Cruisers, Scout Cruisers and Light Cruisers) and Torpedo Combatants (Destroyers, Torpedo Boats and Torpedo Gunboats).  You should find links to most of these in the linked thread.

You could stretch this base to move further up the time scale to include the ships built around or during WWII by adding a couple of tiers if you wanted to take those in.

Hope this is helpful.

And then everyone can sale around at 15-20 knots!!!!

Kind of depends on what type of ship you are driving.

Pre-Dreadnoughts could hit speeds of from 15 to 19 knots and the early Dreadnoughts about 20 or so.  Armored Cruisers in general were faster than 20 knots (up to around 24 in the last models), Scout and Light cruisers could hit between 24 to 30 knots and torpedo boats and destroyers could do better than that.

You're not going to reach speeds like you would with later ships, but it's all relative.  If your battleship are moving at 15 knots, a 20 knot cruiser is pretty fast and a 28 knot Scout Cruiser or destroyer is burning up the ocean.

I'd like to see the clan wars be a bunch of clan members on one ship doing crew stuff. The same 14 vs 14 ship game, but with entire clans running their own ship.

Wooden ships, iron men.

If only someone made a game like that.....*has a vision of Avalon Hill gaming from the 80s*

Remember it would be until 1921 or so. Check either my links or World of Pre-Dreadnoughts links

Looks like South America had 7 BBs. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_American_dreadnought_race

Austria-Hungary probably had enough BBs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_battleships_of_Austria-Hungary

Ottoman see:

I'd love a pre-dread/WWI edition of the game.

Lots of smoke and thunder and shell splashes! The secondaries popping off would number in the hundreds. Swarms of slow, short ranged and weak torps; the massive dispersion of the low ROF main guns. It would be great fun. "Where's the enemy?" "Over there, somewhere!?"

I'll bet WG could do an awesome Napoleonic era ship game.

Cue Horatio Nelson/Hornblower. Having to actually sail and fight your ship?

Yes.

Why have it be a game of ships so close in time/overlapping with the ships in current WoWS? I would much rather see a World of Tall Ships game.
