If you are playing Co-op then you need to get the upgrades as quickly as you can. All carriers really need a 10 point captain to work well. 12 pointers are even better. You need to use camouflage and full combat signals (the ones that give you increased flooding/fire percentages and the +10% AA). All are musts. There is room only for one economic signal. Once you have all that done it is easy goings in PvE.

Never launch any planes until your fighters are ready and in the air. The bot carrier ALWAYS launches what planes get ready first. Thus you normally see his bombers, torp planes, and then his fighters (in that order). Send your fighters to attack his bombers until the torp planes show up. Go after those, kill those, stick with them until you must break contact. They are the biggest threat. Then when the time is right, lock down the bot fighters over a ship with good AA. At tier 4 there are few really good ships, Orion comes to mind however anything with AA will give you an advantage. I have used St Louis cruisers with their mighty 6 AA rating to help give me an edge. Don't land your fighters unless you your numbers are less than 4 but get them back up quickly, finish the last of his torp planes, then fighters, then go after the bombers. This works in every single co-op match. Dominating the bot carrier is super easy just takes a bit of time. BTW don't bother attacking the enemy CV, help your team out by hitting battleships and keeping destroyers spotted. I like to torp bot DDs and get them out of the match quickly.

It helps to not be blessed. The USN CV line is straight out of hell, not sure why you thought those would mix.

Dunno why, the tier 4 and 5 USN carriers rock. I sold the IJN carriers of that tier because they were "meh". I am a full potato player in PvP unless I use the Langley or Bogue. Then I do pretty well.

Honestly, that's a waste of free EXP.  If you make it all the way through to the Bogue with straight grinding it will give you a good intro to the line.  If you skip it and hate USN CVs then you wasted a lot of Free EXP.

(I love the Langely FWIW.  There are unwinable games but for the most part you get to go after ships that don't have AA and never have to deal with strafing enemies)

Line up your runs better.  You have to pay attention to make sure your bombs stay lengthwise down the ship and your torpedo's stay off to one side of the enemy ship or the other.  If you encounter ships turning as you approach, pick a different target,  someone knows WASD hacks.  Left click the enemy squadrons and then sacrifice a goat to improve your RNG.
