British pen tricks?

I had a battle yesterday where I had 46 hits with my Danea, but only 8 pens. 4 of those pens were on an Omaha in my first two salvos. The rest of the battle (Green's won easily), the only targets I had presented to me were tier 5 battleships. I was even aiming higher to hit super structures and I still had 38 non-pens. Should I just be ignoring BBs altogether, or is there some extra tricks I can try with these British guns?

Tier 2-5 British cruisers have all the penetration and ballistic qualities of a medieval catapult. Leander's shells, while having a slower muzzle velocity than Emerald, seems to have much better penetration.

Superstructure hits are always your best bet - you will still get a lot of shatters when shells drop low and hit various armor belts.

In general, you are best off focusing on cruisers and destroyers. Support your friendly destroyers in cap contests, abuse cover and concealment to disengage when battleships have firing solutions on you, use smoke when you get it (I think tier 5, not sure tbh).

You won't do much damage to battleships until tier 6 or so when you start seeing the "all or nothing" armor scheme - then the bow, stern and upper belt are usually thin enough to penetrate whenever you have an angle near broadside. The older dreadnought types you see at tiers 3-5 usually have more armor on the extremities (one of the reasons why they are so slow) so you will have trouble penetrating them.

For now, just keep shooting Omahas. You can't go wrong there!

Always aim for the weakest armoured ships. Battleships at tiers 3-5 have fairly consistent armour all over their hull, causing lots of shatters. Tier 6+ battleships have softer bows and sterns, but even thicker armour around their citadel. Emerald is good against other cruisers, but doesn't too well against dreadnoughts.

Who knows?

Been playing them since they came out, and still can’t figure SAP out.

At least Emerald can torp things to death.
