So the good news is that I got a free Bretagne. The bad news is that I got a Bretagne. Only have a couple of battles in her but she has made quite an impression, albeit a bad one. Shot gun accuracy. AP shatters and bounces on the few hits that land. Appears, its a use AP on cruisers and HE on everything else. This ship is definitely a grind through ship and not a keeper. 1,131 Goodwood_Alpha Members 3,043 posts 10,248 battles Report post #3 Posted February 11, 2018 I got the Bretagne and Normandie both (still working on the Richlieu mission), and have played one battle in each—the former in Co-op, the latter (accidentally) in Random. While it is far too early to make any kind of qualitative judgements, they do at least appear to be "basic b!tch" battleships that are, essentially, fairly n00b-friendly. Took her out twice and got over 70k damage each time. Nothing fancy, but nothing bad either. Pretty forgiving ship. Could use some buffs WG. Edited February 11, 2018 by Hangoverhomey

Ironically, there's a novel that came out last year in which a Marine who served aboard the New York is involved in loading and firing one of the main guns of a Bretagne-class. It's the latest in the Destroyermen series, called Devil's Due.

Sure, its no Cesare, but it is at least as good as a New York. I have managed to land 12k and 17k salvos on battleships (only 1 cit) and dev strike cruisers. So, it still works properly for me. Failed to really do any decent damage even on broadside targets. Now Richelieu? That's a fun ship, love it.

25,573 [ARGSY] Ensign_Cthulhu Members 31,595 posts 30,588 battles Report post #17 Posted February 11, 2018 She's a barge, and the main armament varies from excellent to "where did those shells go, again?" I'm not complaining about her because: She's an accomplishment, not a purchase. She brought a free port slot and a three-point captain with her. I didn't have to grind up the tech tree to her. I didn't have to grind her modules out. She is a Tier 5 battleship, and as such she is eligible to work on a whole lot of tasks which my Orion is NOT (including the million-HP grind to the next three crates). She's a lot of fun in co-op. I'm happy for the bonuses.

168 [C_NT] Aristotle83 Members 967 posts 2,482 battles Report post #19 Posted February 12, 2018 I've only gotten Bretagne and Normandie. Next week hopefully I can get Rich. Bretagne's guns are pretty nice for T5 BUT she's sooo slow. Normandie's guns are great but the ship is even less durable than the Bayern. These ships exteriors are sooo awesome though, it's a shame. I'll unlock both, but run the Normandie. I wasn't planning on the French battleship line, but now that I'm over halfway through, I may as well run it. 1,258 [WIB] Midnitewolf Alpha Tester 3,978 posts 2,472 battles Report post #22 Posted February 12, 2018 So far I got the Bretagne, Normandie and Richelieu missions. I haven't earned the Richelieu yet but considering I love the Dunkerque I am sure am going to like the Richelieu. As for the Bertagne, it has horrible AP and from what I recall, this is historical correct. However, you just have to fire at the superstructure, not the waterline when using it and you will still get good damage. It is also very good against cruisers. As far as ship handling characteristics, even though it has a slow top speed it still seems to be responsive. I would give it an average rating overall. Nothing special but nothing that makes it feel like a complete turd. The Normandie on the other hand feels very odd to play because while It looks like a WWI BB except it handles like a cruiser going something like 27 knots and turns quickly. The 12 guns are kind of nice but it also has poor AP characteristics so I treat this ship more like a up-gunned cruiser and it seems to do pretty decent. The speed and agility are what makes the Normandie "interesting". I say interesting because its not exactly good compared to other tier 6s but it is kind of fun to have so much agility on a ship with BB armor.

The reload scene was one of the more mundane events. The whole collection is a wild and fun and well researched ride.
