I have noticed that when hovering over the Neptune in either the tech tree or the module tree(for the Edinburgh) it states the research price as 173,000 stars, however, when i select the ship(Neptune) and look in the top right (where you unlock the ship) it states the price as 201,000 stars.

I have included screenshots. The first 2 show the price as 173,000. The 3rd shows it as 201,000.

I have no mods installed, and restarting the client does nothing to fix the issue.

Because the higher price includes the required-to-research hull upgrades for the ship before it.  In this case, that's the B hull of Edinburgh, which your first screenshot clearly shows you have not yet researched, and which happens to cost 28000 XP.  173,000 + 28,000 = 201,000.

Most players figure this out around tier 5 or so.

Thanks for the reply Kerensky914.

That makes a lot of sense.

I stopped playing for about a year, and have only been back for about 2 weeks. I probably did figure it out way back then (tier 5), but forgotten since.

Anyways, thanks for either reminding me or letting me know.

No worries, mate.  Hope I didn't come across as too snarky there, I re-read what I wrote and it was a bit sassier than I meant to be. ;)  We see this question a lot on the forums, so sometimes patience wears thin. Welcome back to the game, enjoy yourself. :)
