Since I started playing this game I have always enjoyed the custom skins made by all of you here, so I decided to follow in your footsteps.

Before we get started, here is how to install the custom ship skins I have here:

1. Skins are downloaded in a .zipx file that must to be extracted (You will need an application like Winzip to unzip the files) to the resmods folder in the World of Warships root directory on your computer. On my system the location for the curremt version of the game is: C:\Games\World_of_Warships_NA\res_mods\0.7.3.0

2. The next step is to hide the in-game camo by modifying the camouflages.xml file and placing it in the resmods folder. This is a subject that is way to complex to cover here. Additional information on this subject can be found by searching on the the words "World of Warships hidden camo mod", but many of the posts on that subject are getting a bit dated.  Aslain has a hidden camo mod; his latest version may be found here. I use it exclusively, now, as errors in the camouflages.xml file are a common cause of game crashes.

HMS Orion and HMS Iron Duke, Interwar Period - These two ship's appearance is matched to several period photos of British battleships, that were taken in the 1930's.  Because of the large number of shared files these two ships should always be modified as a pair, so I am offering them as a dual download. Be advised, there are great many misc and gun files in this download that could be incompatible with other artists work so back-up your existing textures and tread carefully.  The good news is they do match Tanz's Orion, to the best of my ability and differing artistic styles.

HMS Prince of Wales - This skin is based on HMS Prince of Wales' appearance in November-December 1941, during convoy escort duty in the Mediterranean and the last time she was photographed in Colombo Sri Lanka, shortly before her destruction and tragic loss. I really enjoyed doing this historic ship and I think you will be happy with the way she looks. I chose the KGV texture as my starting point, so make sure you back-up any KGV skins you want to keep. Turrets are shared with HMS York so I tried to use coloration that should not conflict too much with skins you might have for her, but still match hull I created for Prince of Wales. Open to ideas if you have them.

HMS Queen Elizabeth, 1943, with matching gun turrets. These turrets are shared with HMS Warspite and align well with most versions of the skins available for download. This skin is based on an actual photo of the ship taken shortly after her upgrades completed at Norfolk Naval Shipyard.

I also believe the ships appearance changed when she was repainted and as she weathered

RF Bretagne, Normandie and Lyon - as they would have appeared late in the 1st decade / early 2nd decade of the 20th Century. This paint scheme includes black main turrets, supporting barbettes; and secondary guns (except Lyon, that shares with higher tiers).  I'm offering them as a trio because they would have been contemporaries and they share secondary armament textures. These "historically correct" textures are based on an actual photo of the FR Bretagne at anchor in Toulon harbor and "what if" photo shop rendering of the RF Normandie, created by alt_naval, as if  they had actually been built. All 3 ships have the stack stripes that appear in many period photographs of the Battleship Division Flagships.

Dunkerque - This is a fictitious dazzle paint scheme that assumes Dunkerque survived and was refitted in 1943-44.  The camouflage pattern is based on the premium camo that came with the Gascogne - may not be historically accurate but it is still pleasing to the eye and is consistent with other French battleship paint schemes during the later years of WWII... He has a premium camouflage version of this skin on his site, so if you prefer to go that route please pay him a visit. This download only includes the hull and superstructure, as matching guns, catapults, directors, finders, radar, projectile and misc files can be found on Succession's forum thread; which are available for download here. This allows those who like Succession's USS Milwaukee skin and this skin, to swap them out quickly without having to change all of the peripheral files. Chung Mu - This ship was transferred to the ROKN in 1963 and I have been asked by several folks where I came up with the idea to paint her in this particular scheme.  I based it on the model a scratch built model constructed by Son, Jung Gun. You can view his work here. Based on some additional research I do not believe that is a historical paint scheme. What I believe is the model builder constructed the ship from wood and he wanted that to be obvious when it was displayed. Based on that I am offering the ship in 3 seperate schemes: The Brown scheme shown below, a ROKN haze gray scheme and a WWII USN Ms22 scheme worn by USS Erben before her transfer to the ROKN.

USS Smith DD-17 (Premium T2) - This skin is based on an actual photo of USS Smith that was taken while entering New York Harbor in March 1917.

USS Fairfax 1918 (Wickes) - This skin is based on two period photographs of a Wickes Class Destroyer, USS Fairfax (DD-93),  that were taken during her builder's trials.  I had to make a few small changes to the camouflage pattern to account for a shared bulkhead texture amidships.

USS Dent DD-119 (Clemson) - This skin is a "historical" skin created by using an actual period photograph of the ship's port side, that was taken circa 1918. The starboard side is patterned after an actual camouflage scheme used on ship's that were contemporaries of USS Dent, so it may not be accurate but is plausible. The colors are also my "best guess", based on the fact that I do not have historical documentation on USN. WWI paint schemes.

USS Nicholas, USS Farragut and USS Mahan - offered as a triple download, as they share numerous textures. This allows you to have all hulls with matching equipment. These are complete reskins and are all my work; however, I used the same camouflage Measures and patterns as Tanz, just in case you don't want to use the entire ship set. The colors I used for Measures are matched to the USN WWII paint chips.

USS Roe DD-418 (Sims Class Premium) - This Ms12 modified camouflage scheme was worn by USS Roe in 1942, during operations in the North Atlantic and for the landings in Algeria in 1942.  If you would like to get rid of the aqua shade from many of the ship's "bits and pieces" get the USN Haze Gray Bits and Pieces download too.

2djyurn.jpg

USS Roe DD-418 version 2 - Like most modders I sometimes agonize over "getting it right, so I spent several hours researching the N-5S Sea Blue color used in Ms12 modified, which was a real education. Apparently Ms12 was quite short-lived and the N-5S came in 3 different versions (A, B and C). The color closest to the one I used in the first version I released is version A. After much searching I was able to find a paint chip of this color and I felt that the color I originally used didn't have quite enough of a greenish shade to it. Now this type of thinking is a slippery slope as ships sun fade very quickly and how an object reflects light in real life, versus small objects like model ships, never mind how color is affected by a computer game's ability to accurately render color is enough to make you insane. So I reworked the texture to better match the paint chip, without getting too anal and accounting for some fading and version 2 reflects that changed. As I believe in giving folks a choice, I decided to offer both to you. If it means anything to you I believe version 2 is more accurate.

Hey, USNA, I saw your post in another thread about believing your original thread was deleted for not having the updated version number in the title.  I suspect that may have been what happened to mine, as well.  I noticed that some mods have [ALL] in their title rather than a specific version #, so I've decided to use that in my new one, because it does accurately describe these skin mods: they work in all versions, and don't have to be updated with each patch (unless something on the original texture gets changed).  So you might try that.

I spend a great deal of time making these skins and I don’t do final anti-aliasing until I flatten the skins to remove all layers. Once they are flattened,  making changes is very time consuming, so I like to see what you guys think, before I do that. I really prefer to use historically correct skins, if at all possible, unless it’s a post WWII “paper ship” or a postwar ship that shares turrets with a WWII era ship (USS Des Moines is a good example). Most French ships had historic paint schemes. In the case of the Panasian ships WG has lumped ships together from many different countries, so I must ensure conflicts don’t occur with turrets, gun mounts and misc files. So keeping these ships’ skins pretty basic helps in that regard.

I'm also quite open to making non-historic skins, just let me know what you have in mind and I will be glad to consider it.

OK, Bottom Line Up Front (BLUF) - if you have downloaded the T8 Hseinyang from me before you should delete file ZSD005_Hsiang_Yang_1945_a.dds and ZSD005_Hsiang_Yang_1945_ao.dds

If you really care why, the answer is WG is trying to make me crazy and here is why...

1. The T8 Panasian DD is call "Hseinyang" in-game

2. The Texture file for the the A and B hulls for the "Hseinyang" is called  ZSD004_Hsien_Yang_1945_a.dds

3. The hull for the T10 Panasian DD is called "Yeuyang" and the hull for the Yueyang is "ZSD005_Hsiang_Yang_1945_a.dds"...after all this I got confused and had to fix it...alkl better now.

You can't make this stuff up =P

Chung Mu - This ship was transferred to the ROKN in 1963 and I have been asked by several folks where I came up with the idea to paint her in this particular scheme.  I based it on a scratch built model constructed by Son, Jung Gun. You can view his work here.

I just luv that Chung Mu paint scheme =D I moved the hull number slightly forward to match photos of the actual ship. As a 27.5 year veteran of the USN I can tell you for a fact, side number location changes during a ship's life are rare...too much damn work to move them, unless the work is done by a shipyard.

Ok sports fans =)

Here is a version of the FRA Algerie that I am experimenting with and I would like to know what you all think. This is basically an historic scheme, but I was disappointed by the fact that all four turrets on the ship use the same texture file. The actual ship's national markings were only applied to the roof of Turret 2. For that reason I moved the French national markings to the bulkhead below Turret 2, as I definitely wanted French players to have a ship with the tri-color. It may not be the sexiest skin out there, but it's pretty much what she wore and that is my usual approach. If anyone would like to have her in a non-historic scheme just give me some ideas and we can also give it a try.

If you are a fan of Japanese destroyers and you have the Harekaze and / or Kagero, you absolutely must have this skin that Mebius created. This skin is a true masterpiece and it can be found here. Check it out =D
