Battleship Villeneuve was a super dreadnought built by the Royal [Redacted] Navy in the year [Redacted]. She was built in response to the Queen Elizabeth and Bayern class battleships from Britain and Germany. While having thinner armour than the two classes of ships, she had a higher top speed and more effective torpedo protection, along with a longer operational range. Four ships of the Villeneuve-class were originally planned to be built, but after only Villeneuve was built, the remaining three were cancelled and reordered as the more powerful Hardy-class battleships, which featured significantly thicker armour and a more powerful secondary battery.

Specifications (as built):

Four propellers with single rudder

Speed: 25.5 knots designed (achieved 26.2 knots on trials)

10 400 km operational range

Armour:

320mm armour over magazines

305mm belt armour, tapering to 229mm at fore and aft

203mm armour above main belt

105mm deck armour over citadel, tapering to 45mm at fore and aft

283mm turret faces

229mm turret sides

120mm turret roofs

203mm turret rear

229mm barbettes

229mm conning tower sides

152mm conning tower roof

152mm rear conning tower sides

105mm rear conning tower roof

120mm secondary casemates

60mm torpedo bulkhead

Superstructure, bow and stern not armoured

Armament:

4x2 381mm L/45 guns

14x1 152mm L/45 guns

10x1 76mm L/60 guns (dual purpose)

The main battery of eight 381mm guns could originally elevate to 15 degrees as built and could depress to 8 degrees, providing a maximum range of 19 000 metres. This was increased to 20 degrees shortly after construction, increasing the range to 23 000 metres. The guns had a relatively high rate of fire of about 2.2 rounds per minute.

The secondary battery consisted of fourteen 152mm guns arranged with seven hull casemates along each side of the ship. They were designed to defend against torpedo boats and cruisers. They initially had a range of 12 000 metres. This was increased to 16 000 metres shortly after construction. They too had a relatively high rate of fire of about 6.2 rounds per minute.

Villeneuve was also initially armed with ten single 76mm AA guns, which could elevate to 60 degrees and depress to 10 degrees. They were equipped with splinter shields to protect the crew during combat. They had a rate of fire of  13.7 rounds per minute.

Unlike similar battleships of the period, Villeneuve was not equipped with torpedo tubes.

Villeneuve was modernized during [Redacted], significantly improving anti-aircraft defenses and rebuilding the superstructure.

Spoiler

There we have it! This is the first ship I've drawn in Photoshop and honestly I'm pretty happy with it, though I think I made the forward superstructure too big. I modeled the ship heavily after a real warship, can anyone guess which one it is?

Yeah, I'm too lazy to think up displacement and dimensions or more technical details such as engine power. I'm also too lazy to think of any dates, which is why they are labled redacted. The nation is also redacted because this is the navy of my Nationstates country, and I don't want to reveal the name because someone is going to bring up the politics of the country and get the topic locked. Seriously, I might steer the country into the most centrist stance I possibly can and maybe then I'll reveal the name.

Two 152mm guns and all the 75mm guns were removed during the refit. Thirteen 20mm single Oerlikon guns and six 40mm dual Bofors were added. The ship also received new 120mm dual purpose cannons in four twin mounts. The ship was equipped with a radar set on the roof of the newly modernized superstructure, as well as improved fire control. An extendable aircraft catapult was also fitted. Like many British warships, the catapult is fixed and launches aircraft to the side. Villeneuve was equipped with two small biplanes for scouting and artillery spotting, although depth charges were provided for use against submarines. Each biplane could carry two depth charges under the wings. These modifications, while improving anti-aircraft armament and fire control significantly, and lowered the top speed to 24.7 knots along with making the ship sit somewhat lower in the water, meaning that the casemate guns and aft pair of 120mm guns would often be awash with water in heavy seas.

*Camo pattern coming soon*

yeah that's not happening
