So after having about 2k in battles I believe I have gotten to where I can hold my own in tier 7 or below. But any time I get into a tier 8 I seem to get waxed how many more battles should I look to before tier 8 gets better?

That depends on you no one can ever give  you an exact number as each person is different. Your best bet is to reach out and ask for someone to train with you. take advantage of the reddit and the discord as well. Not to mention training room and co-op

Just looking at your stats,  You have a very long way to go.  You might think you are " holding your own" at T7 and below, but you really aren't.

Your damage is well below average, which is making your XP gains extremely low.  This is why you are getting your Backside Waxed when you go up a tier where the ships are much more powerful.       Not ever having played with you, or any basis but your stats to go on.  You aren't even ready for T7 to be honest.

I'd suggest dropping down even lower and sticking with a class of ships you like and learning them inside and out.

everyone's learning curve is different

i think if you are fine at T7, what you need is getting accustomed to tier X meta, not pure skill improvement

Yeap, I've been there. But... your Mutsuki though

Spoiler

Mutsuki 5 DD japan_wows.svgJapan 57 33.33% 17,654 804 0.7 0.6 0.6 14% 43% 9% 942

How... how did that even happen?

I haven't been the best in some of these ships due to I truly didn't understand how to play them. This I have worked on to improve and feel I have gotten better but it appears that I have some improving to be done thank you for pointing this out to me.

T8 is pretty frustrating in general. T9 and T10 are much easier since you're not automatically at the bottom of the food chain every game.

T8 is a tough ceiling to hit these days.  Most of the time it's T10 light, at best.

... and BTW +/-1 MM would go a ways to fixing it :Smile_hiding:

Your numbers have been trending upward over your last few hundred games, which is obviously a very good thing.  This may indeed signify that things really are starting to click for you.  Unfortunately WarshipsToday has its limitations, among them being that you're pretty much stuck with only being able to see splits for whatever date range it decides to give you.

T8 is one of the most difficult jumps to make in this game, because you so often end up as bottom tier against T10 ships (often pretty heavily T10).  Particularly when you're still getting used to your new T8 ship, let alone the different playstyle of the games and capabilities of enemy warships, it doesn't make for a lot of confidence-building games (not to mention suffering through a retraining commander).  The "getting it" moments come completely at random...things like when you catch yourself moving in for an attack on a DD and then remember that the New Orleans lurking nearby hasn't used his radar for a while and there's a lot of battleships who'll have lines of fire on you, or when you're about to swing the butt of your battleship out so your rear guns can bear on the broadside Zao cruising along 7km off your side and you suddenly realize that's he sailing broadside like that because he just dumped his torps at you.  Mostly the game is just about trial & error, and learning from the mistakes that we all make.

I would also recommend that, at least until you're a bit better at the foundations of the game (causing damage without taking so much, for example), you try to specialize a bit more in a specific type of ship.  It's always good to branch out and get a better idea of how battleships, cruisers, destroyers, and even carriers work, but your own skill progression is going to happen faster if you're sinking the majority of your games into just one of those options.  Once you've got the point where you know you can (at least) hold your own against any competition, then you can diversify a bit more (if you still want to).

Thank you this is what I am looking for. I guess I should of phrased my question better to elicit this kind of response.

I remember my first foray into T8.   First match was the first glimpse I got of the Yamato.   It was a bit of pucker time!

I also remember being very timid.   That charging and aggressiveness that worked at T5 through T7 will get you focused and erased.... quickly.

So, for a bit, I stayed in a group, added my fire to those my teammates were focusing.   A timid mouse.

After awhile, you'll adapt to the levels, and expand your play.    At T8, don't expect to rack up big numbers, or carry the game with any measure.    Sometimes, you'll get those games.   To start, sail carefully and cautiously.  Lend a hand where you can, and work on situational awareness - work on cover, keep your broadside hidden, and keep pounding away.    With a number of games, you'll season to the meta.

Good luck!

I have learned to be more patient at the higher tiers. Let the battle develope more, before you commit. This was very hard for me because I liked to brawl with my BBs.

My recommendation would be return to T4.  There's a lot more to learn.  I'm not trying to be a jerk, I returned to T4 and spent some quality time there and it made me a much better player.

When your stats looked like the OP's too I bet? I did the same thing rushed like heck to get to tier 10, then realized oh crap I'm out of my depth and am an anchor on my team. Took @LittleWhiteMouse advice. Looked at what ships I did well in, for me the Phoenix. Then I played it and nothing else for 200 battles, I became a master in the Phoenix. Then I moved on from there and am a far better player than back when I had 3k battles and an 840 WTR.

I won't hide them, here's my CBT stats.  I thought I was holding my own too.  Phoenix was the ship I returned to as well.  Why Phoenix?  I had a spare USN captain to put in it.
