Dear Follow Teammates/WoWs,

Well, I have decided to push down the USN  CA/CL line. I am at the Cleveland. Any suggestions? Also the IJN CA/Cl line and soon MN BB line to T9.

P.S. It is my birthday as well today.

Cleveland is an anomaly, the captain build is basically worthless afterwards. How I got to the Des Moines: survival and concealment. Keep the cleveland, it'll be changed to a new ship soon(ish?)

MN?

The IJN line has a very high skill ceiling, they are floating citadels...remember...side = death.

To expand on this, keep any USN cruiser you get from Cleveland on up, as it's expected that in Q2 of this year, there will be a line split introducing a branch of light cruisers. Whatever ships you have in your port that get reshuffled give you the new ships, too, so even if you can only progress to Pensacola, if you keep it and Cleveland you'll get a Pensacola, New Orleans, and a new Tier 8 Cleveland after the split.

Did we get confirmation of this?

There has been no confirmation about how the split will be handled yet. Most are just estimating based on the 2 previous splits and making a good guess. WG was pretty generous on the last 2. Keep everything because we don't know for sure what will happen yet.

My plan for the Cleveland, I am setting it aside and waiting for the cruiser split. I am keeping its Capt aside also (with DE, CE, and soon IFHE). CAs use slightly different skills so if I decide to get the USN CAs I will use a different Capt for them.

I am doing the same with the IJN cruisers: my Mogami Capt will stay in the Mogami (with CL guns) and not transfer to the T9 and T10 CAs.

Happy Birthday!

I keep my cleveland and her captain for op's mostly. Hopefully they'll give us enough time get our ducks in a row before the split.

The learning curve for USN Cruisers jumps up considerably starting at Tier VII.  I highly suggest to go back to your Omaha roots in how to stay alive, because Cleveland IMO teaches some bad survival habits as she is very forgiving.  You go from paper mache ships like Phoenix->Omaha, then very robust Cleveland, then back to paper mache Pensacola->New Orleans.  Even IX Baltimore and X Des Moines are squishy ships.

The guns for VII Pensacola & VIII New Orleans are actually very nice.  They get better bounce angles than other Non-RN CL AP shells.  They are actually very good against Cruisers.  The problem for them is that they're seeing Battleships more than Cruisers :Smile_teethhappy:  Matter of fact, a number of the game's most played ships are BBs, and they are mostly found in Tier VIII.  BBs can and will delete you.  When you get spotted, you can watch your Priority Target counter skyrocket as everyone knows they can get that 1-2 AP salvo and delete you.

Max HP.

Zero HP.

Gone as quick as a snap of the fingers.

A big change in USN Cruiser Guns occurs again at Tier IX.  You start having floaty shells, which may be a problem engaging Cruiser or smaller targets with more range.  A Leningrad can troll a Baltimore at 12km and Baltimore will struggle to hit it, while Roon will easily punish the same DD trying the same thing at that range.  What Baltimore gets are high penetration AP shells once upgraded.  At the right range, it punishes ships very easily.  DM has the same shells, she just fire faster like a Cleveland slinging 203mm instead of 152mm shells.

Islands become more of your safety blanket as you go higher in the tiers.  Open Water combat is what gets you sunk with High Tier USN Cruisers.  You also need to learn how to leverage USN Cruiser Stealth and Radar use.  Also, the same floaty shells at Tier IX-X allow you to hide behind low islands and fire over them, while more direct-firing ships may struggle or can't even engage you.

Just a short blurb on IJN Cruisers:  You will appreciate the steadiness in performance of IJN Cruiser guns.  Once you get 203mm at Tier VI, they behave very consistently.  Tier VII Myoko in particular is the template of IJN CA gameplay (but she has terrible turret traverse, which other IJN CAs don't suffer).  Leverage their stealth, only RN CLs are stealthier.  Their HE is very powerful but do not disregard their AP.  Switch up.  Keep up the shell switching for the right situations as it will pay off tremendously with X Zao.  She will greatly reward you with timely AP use instead of sticking with HE only.  You have powerful torpedoes, the longest range Cruiser torps, but most have terrible launch angles that favor rear launches.  That makes IJN CAs very dangerous while kiting, but offensively, you may flash sides to launch them and that means getting citadeled.  This is a very common IJN Cruiser mistake.

Happy Birthday!  The Cleveland is a fun ship, and I use it pretty frequently.  On a side note, my favorite car that I have ever owned was my Flash Silver 87 VW Scirocco 16v.  The car you love to fix.
