So I got beached in my Chinese tier 5 destroyer today.  I could not get unstuck no matter what.  Backward, forwards, anything.  Is this a new thing or a glitch?  4 min stuck in the game. Should we just disconnect and play another game when this happens?

That's been happening since alpha. The only 'solution' we've been given is 'don't Austin Powers yourself'.

You have to get a team mate to nudge you off the rocks im always beached.

And I just thought you were using that as a "secret tactic" to fool everyone you were out of service and suck us towards you!

You cant get off the rocks alone.

You can get out of any beach situation, just depending on the severity it will take time.

First, identify the half of the ship that is stuck, either front or back. If front, drive forward and turn into the rocks. If back, reverse and push into the rocks. This goes against common sense I know.

what will happen is that if you are pushing into the rocks, your other end will swing out. It will be slow, because the game is programmed to turn you faster when you move faster. Even though when stuck it will say 0 knots, you are still moving very slightly. After a time, your unstuck half will swing out and you can escape.

Magnets in the islands.  I swear.  *Puts on tinfoil hat*  But seriously though, I'm glad flooding isn't done when you hit land because that'd be the majority of my deaths.  As a chronic island hugger I've got a sort of checklist I go through to get unstuck and thankfully it has worked the majority of times for me.  Granted some situations aren't conducive to time and being shot at tends to exacerbate the situation but by doing the following I don't think I've ever Permanently beached.  Not saying it doesn't happen mind you.  Mainly it's a matter of finding what you're stuck on and what part of your ship is stuck on it.

1) Let off your rudder, full speed ahead

2) No rudder, full reverse

if neither of those work, then start adding left and right rudder and repeating the full forward or full reverse.  Usually, this is enough.  Usually.  Sometimes in a hard turn you've drifted port or starboard and the middle of your ship is stuck on something, then it becomes a little more finesse in order to extricate yourself.

If you've Austin powered yourself however

Remember the rudder shift.  You've got very slight movements to make.  before you change directions from forward to reverse, when you hit 0 knots you want to have the rudder neutral.  When you're going forward or in reverse to try to get out of the tight spot, you want to have the rudder already fully in the direction needed before you start gaining speed.  Amount of times I'm stuck in a panic situation and trying to go forward but rudder shift has me turning right back into the situation...  Well I don't want to admit lol.

Many players hate the feature but activating the collision avoidance system in Settings will cause your ship to slightly "bounce" away from islands, preventing getting stuck.

No, Pulicat, you can't always get off the beach.

I've only done it a handful of times, but every once in a while I've snagged on the rocks about parallel to the beach.  No amount of forward/back and left/right rudder has been able to get my boat unstuck.  Somehow you're kept from going either forward or back, so the rudder has nothing to dig in to to pull or push your bow or stern off the rocks.

I know you say "After a time", but I've been on there more than ten minutes with no movement.  Permastuck is possible.

You aren't doing it as I describe. If now stuck, you put engines full ahead once and turn into the rocks until you swing out, then reverse out. Wiggling gets you more stuck. Trying to Austin powers your way out as @Lert days by going forward and back does not work. Do it the way I describe, you will get out.

No, I was doing it exactly as you described.  For more than ten minutes.  And still, on the rock.

Replay it because I am curious. I spent some time in training room to get a consistent way for actual battles and have never had trouble in either, so to see your situation would be nice and maybe I can try to emulate it.

I've got replays turned on, so I know I have it somewhere - but it's from at least one patch back.

I remember thinking, "okay, I'll just throttle back and forth while steering into the rock, because that used to work 100% in WoT", and then my increasing surprise at still being stuck as the minutes ticked by.

Not true. Most of the time I would agree but I have experienced groundings where my movement fore and aft was very limited and I could not get loose. In one instance I was not spotted so had lots of time to try, to no avail. My worse groundings occur when I am trying desperately to avoid running aground, slowing and turning hard as I can away from the island. What ends up happening is I fishtail onto the island, beaching broadside. If Murphy has his way, I end up with a small rocks in front and behind me limiting how much I can wiggle. Never had an available teammate to give me a nudge to break free.

Best solution would be to go ahead and ram the dang island, back up, and proceed on your way. Its trying to avoid the grounding that gets me trapped.

You don't need fore and aft movement with my method. You are pushing the unstuck half of your ship away from the ground with the stuck half.

But in my example, the whole damn ship was stuck, I might get 1 kt of speed up before I was stopped again. I'm sure if I had  nearby division mate I could have him ram my bow/stern, but coordinating this in a random was hopeless. It took a while to determine, yup, I'm stuck. I was unseen because the battle had moved to the other side of the map (all red ships on my end were sunk).

Next time it happens (or maybe in a training room) I'll try driving into the rocks.
