Being a fan of the Battle of River Plate I'm wondering if wargaming will give us the HMS Exeter.

Maybe a tier 6 premium?

I know her main gun armament is certainly not going to make her op in any way but perhaps with torps, good maneuvering, and accurate guns she could be a fun and historical ship to play.

Just something to put on the wish list.

We hope so -

My general thought is that she'd be happier at about 4 RPM at T5 with Furutaka. If you wanted T6 she'd need to at least match Aoba's 5.5 RPM which is a bit 'optimistic'.

The RN cruiser line - with the withdrawal of Belfast - has no premium cruiser to support it as a trainer. A heavy cruiser not needing IFHE would chime well with the AP slinging line too.

Mofton great thread you started, sorry I missed it.

Fair points about how she might be better off as a tier 5.

Well they had Perth, but she's "Commonwealth" which is very sparsely populated territory ship-wise. Isn't Vampire her only stablemate?

Yes, Perth and Vampire are the only Commonwealth ships so far.

Unfortunately in-game they're not British and can't take British captains, so they're useless as trainers to a British cruiser line.

I'd say T6, that means the 8 gun RN heavy cruiser can be T7, so we can get HMAS Australia/Canberra a tier up from Perth.  If done as a subline, like the Japanese DDs, the Hawkins at T5, York class at T6, County at T7.  I guess paper ships after that if they have to go to T10.  Only oddness would be Yorks came after Counties, chronologically speaking.

Most are saying tier 5 because with Pensacola going to tier 6 there is a very good chance Aoba is getting removed and or moved when they look at the IJN Cruiser line. With Myoko Preliminary at tier 6 with 4x 2 gun turrets, that is quite balanced vs County and Pensacola at tier 6. The Hawkins is in a very odd position ship wise.

My personal opinion is that the RN should get a heavy cruiser line but the Hawkins should be the premium at tier 5 with York in the tree. They can either go with the original Hawkins build, or the remodeled Effingham as both are very uniquely different with their change in main armament.

For the tech tree, this is fine, WG have fudged ships stats before to make them go up or down a tier. With the RN CAs being a fairly nice progression through Hawkins > York > Kent/London, I see it good enough to buff York up a bit to a 10s reload or so, and a late war AA fit to be applied if she had survived as a final hull. This way the RN CA line makes the best use of the few real ship classes it is given from tier 5 to 7, and then designs at tiers 4, 8, 9 and 10.

However, Exeter herself, as mofton said, is a more comfortable tier 5 premium using the more historically apt stats. She can follow the stock hull a tier below philosophy in a way, though obviously she is very similar to Furutaka. You could make her a clone of a T6 York, but there is already premium candidates for a T6 CA, while T5 lacks this without cloning Hawkins for Frobisher (Counting Effingham as a CL).
