198 [DBM] AMajor Members 602 posts 20,846 battles Report post #1 Posted January 28, 2018 Been loving my recent success in the Omaha. Watched lots of how-to videos on USN light cruisers. For some reason, I cannot fight the Phoenix well, but the Omaha is a different story. If someone could explain that to me, I would appreciate it. I'm at the point where I just want to sell the Phoenix and be done with her. I play the Omaha as a long range fire starter, island hopper, and dd killer. She is VERY good at that job. Once I break free of the cover of an island, I am at full speed and turning constantly. I am doing well except when I get up-tiered into a Tier VII fight. In a Tier VII fight, I have to tuck in tight to the islands (much closer than I have to at a lower tiered fight) so I don't have the same shooting arcs that I use at the lower tiers. I end up doing figure 8s, popping out of one side, firing at what I can hit, and ducking back around behind the island. I do damage, but I also seem to get more than my fair share of attention. As soon as I get clear of cover, the turning trick that works so well at lower tiers turns into kiting as everything within range tries to kill me. Even when I tuck behind a friendly BB, they still fire at me. Is the Omaha a target at Tier VII? Should I play her different? If so, how should I change my gameplay? Also, island hopping is a good strategy but make sure to use your forward mounted guns to your advantage, if you are ever cornered just go bow on and back up, they won't be able to do as much damage to your bow (after damage saturation) and they will expose their sides to try and use their rear turrets. So yes, the Omaha is a huge target at Tier 7 due to her massive citadel just how juicy it is for anything 150mm and higher. Just make sure to set fires and then use concealment to your advantage and (this is paramount) NEVER BE CAUGHT OUT ALONE Happy hunting man! It is quite fun racking up the damage now until you make that one mistake and get deleted! It really is a great high tier cruiser trainer and is helping me now with my survival in the tier 10 world. Omaha has good guns. She’s really good at preparing you for Pensacola. You have to dance like a butterfly and sting like a bee in both. 46 [DONUT] IcyThor Members 476 posts 6,805 battles Report post #5 Posted March 2, 2018 Omaha is my favorite ship. She has a great rate of fire. Her HE sets everything on fire but its powerful enough to outright kill a DD. She has good speed and maneuverability. Her AA can be buffed so using Priority Target shoots down spotter planes and incoming attack planes. In the open sea you can zig zag and dance enough to keep most BBs from getting a solid hit but you are raining down HE fire on them constantly. I don't mind showing my broadside to a BB as long as I am outside of her secondary gun range. If you can team up with a BB you become a killing machine. The BB absorbs most of the hits (but heals) and you keep fires burning on the enemy ship. The BB usually gets the kill but you run up big HP numbers and ships are sunk. When you are sailing alone NEVER attack more than 1 ship. If you are engaged with 1 ship and another enemy ship arrives break off and run. Its better to be alive so you can do more damage later in the game. When you engage another cruiser that is as nimble as you break off and look for a better victim. Can have positive impact in T7 games if played carefully, as others said kite and wiggle all the time. Look for BBs engaged with others and spank DDs when spotted. Their AP is effective vs Tier 5/6 cruisers, not so much against T7. Get IFHE, DE, CE
116 [C-1] Levits Members 438 posts 8,756 battles Report post #7 Posted March 3, 2018 The Omaha is a serious threat and one heck of an annoyance. I don't recall my time in it, but I will give credit where it is due. The Omaha is one mean ship. Out of all of the lower tier ships that show up from time to time, I've learned not to underestimate that sob.
