149 [RED] Swedgin381 Members 201 posts 10,366 battles Report post #1 Posted January 26, 2018 (edited) My USN Skins: This project started out with the idea of taking the original, blue-hulled skins from CBT (which were more historically-accurate than the all-gray hulls that replaced them) and cleaning them up, stripping off most of the horribly overdone rust that the ships were caked in while still preserving all the great detail and "character" WG had given them. Soon after starting it I also added hull numbers to the ships (corresponding to each ship's in-game name; e.g. 61 for Iowa, 445 for Fletcher, 51 for Atlanta, etc.), and changed the shade of blue from the almost aqua-ish hue WG used to a much more accurate navy blue. Measure 22 (Ms22) consisted of painting the hull 5-N Navy Blue up to the lowest point of sheer, then continuing horizontally straight across, fore and aft. All vertical surfaces above this are 5-H Haze Gray, and all horizontal surfaces are 20-B Deck Blue. A small, unshaded hull number was painted on the bow in white, and in some (but not all) cases on the stern, as well; the ship's name was NOT painted on the stern during the war.Medium Quality vs. High Quality: HQ skins are completely lossless, modified versions of WG's original textures... but have a file size larger than that of most other skin modders like Tanz (but if you have even a "decent" system you shouldn't have an issue with them). The MQ versions are compressed, which unfortunately adds some blockiness and pixelization. But these versions are intended for people playing on low-end systems who most likely have the graphics settings turned way down, and at "Low" texture quality such artifacts shouldn't even be noticeable, anyway. Master Collection - All 30+ Ms22 skins contained in a single zip file for easier downloading. Note that this DOES NOT include the Missouri, New Mexico, or Somers; choose which of the 3 Missouri skins you want and download that separately. However, for a period in late-1941 the Mississippi and Idaho both wore Ms12, which was very similar. The layout of the 2 schemes was the same, but used different colors: Ms12 featured 5-O Ocean Gray rather than 5-H Haze Gray, and 5-S Sea Blue instead of 5-N Navy Blue. The photos of the New Mex's 2 sisters in 1941 also show that they didn't have their hull numbers painted on bow or stern during this time. I grew up about 10 minutes away from Battleship Cove, and I must've been on that ship 50+ times over the years. (BTW, the little restaurant/diner set up in the officers' wardroom made the best burger and fries I've ever had, still to this day.) So I knew I needed my WoWS Big Mamie looking the way I've always known her, even if it's not an "authentic" paint scheme she wore while in active service. This features haze gray on all vertical surfaces, natural wooden decks, black funnel cap, large shaded hull numbers at bow and stern, and name on the stern in black. I've also re-done the steel portion of the deck at the bow, using bits from the Alabama texture, to remove all of the non-skid material that's not seen on the ship today. When I originally saw this photo (probably a couple of years ago now), I made the decision not to make a skin for it because the hull numbers I was adding matched the lead ships of the class (the name that the game uses for each of them), and New Mexico herself was--apparently--never painted this way. If I remember correctly, I did the same thing with the Mahan-class; I believe there were maybe one or two ships out of the 18 that did wear Ms22 at some point, but not Mahan. NewMex.dds I have all the CBT MS22 textures so no worries: New Mexico is a ship I'll be doing. The AB hulls for US DDs are going to give me trouble I think, as are Lexington and Midway. (Lexington underwent a pretty massive model and texture change I believe, and Midway wasnt around until after MS22 was removed). If you find any Measure 22 skins for the AB hull US DDs (Farragut and Mahan) or Midway (or Enterprise or Arkansas Beta or Arizona) that would be more helpful in my quest to give all US ships MS22 perma camos... 149 [RED] Swedgin381 Members 201 posts 10,366 battles Report post #15 Posted February 10, 2018 (edited) So, interesting thing about the photo of the Idaho that Avalon304 posted: she's actually painted in Measure 12, not 22. The design of the 2 schemes was basically identical, but the colors were different. Ms12 used 5-O Ocean Gray and 5-S Sea Blue. Sea Blue was lighter than Ms22's Navy Blue, and not too far off the color that WG used in the old CBT textures. (The ships also didn't sport hull numbers anywhere on their sides at this time.) First post updated with skins for both the A and B hulls. Edited February 10, 2018 by TheElusiveDenby

If they'd never added it at all, then hey: no big deal. But for them to go to all the trouble of developing it (months after the Alabama had already been released), adding it to the client, giving it to supertesters and CCs to show off, and then say "Nah--doesn't add anything new to the game, so never mind"... I think I know how Charlie Brown must feel every time Lucy yanks that damn football away from him. So basically, I think I'm done with Warships for the time being. If they ever do get around to releasing the Massachusetts (and don't "Duke of York" it, or mangle it with some other stupid gimmick in an attempt to make it "unique"), then I'll be back. All my current skins will remain here, but I won't be updating them if there are any changes to the textures, and I won't be posting anything new (including the 2 Massachusetts and 2 Salem skins that are already done, or the Worcester skin that's nearly done). Sorry about that, but I'm pretty damn disappointed right now...

149 [RED] Swedgin381 Members 201 posts 10,366 battles Report post #19 Posted June 19, 2018 Cleveland and Baltimore have both been updated (new links added). The ship textures themselves remain unchanged, but needed to be renamed. The turrets, however, were completely re-done by WG at some point between the time I last played and update 7.5; if your Cleveland, Baltimore, and Buffalo turrets look all wonky, go to your res_mods/0.7.5.1/content/gameplay/usa/gun/main/textures folder and delete the files AGM009_6in47_CL55_a.dds and AGM019_8in55_CA68_a.dds. In the ../usa/ship/cruiser/textures folder, you can also delete the ASC036_Cleveland_1942_a.dds file if you still have it, as the Cleveland doesn't have a separate model for the A hull anymore. As far as future plans go, I have my fingers crossed that the Massachusetts is going to be released this week or next (supposedly it's been finalized and is ready to go). I'll have 2 (possibly 3) different skins posted for it the day it goes on sale. For the 7.6 update, I have 2 ready for the Salem and 1 for the Worcester. I'm still not sure yet, however, what to do about the Seattle and Buffalo. They may not have been completely made up by WG, but they never got far enough along in the design stage for the USN to even assign them names or hull numbers. If someone else does some nice skins for them, I may end up just using those. If not, I'll probably get around to them eventually...
149 [RED] Swedgin381 Members 201 posts 10,366 battles Report post #20 Posted June 21, 2018 (edited) Decided to go ahead and make a Buffalo skin, after all (link in second post): It honestly looked kinda weird (compared to the rest of my skins) without a number on the bow, but as I mentioned the problem I had was that if this was even an actual preliminary design by the USN, they never advanced it far enough to give it a name or hull number. So I just went ahead and made one up (160). I'll do the same for Seattle (maybe 167). At this point I'm leaning toward not doing a skin for the last paper ship, the Dallas. Hopefully USNA_76, TheStarSlayer, or someone else will make a cool one for it... cuz otherwise I don't know what number I'd stick on there. It'd be odd to give it one that's higher than any of the T9s or 10s... Edited June 21, 2018 by TheElusiveDenby

I've been poking at a Dallas skin loosely based on a scheme on a MS-32/1D sported on the Raleigh. I don't know if I will put a hull number on it, though I am tempted to use 700 even if it is out of place.

I see what you did there. And the sonar gets a buff by virtue of having Jonesy on board? If you make a skin for it, I'll use it.
149 [RED] Swedgin381 Members 201 posts 10,366 battles Report post #23 Posted June 29, 2018 (edited) It was exactly 3 years ago today that I started playing World of Warships (I remember specifically because it's very nearly my birthday), and it's been pretty much that long that I've been hoping that maybe one day the USS Massachusetts--the ship I grew up practically next-door to--might eventually be added to the game. Well, look what's now in my port: Happy Birthday to me. (And for all the Canadians hoping that Haida would come out today, I hope you don't have to wait too much longer.) So, 3 Massachusetts skins added to the first post, as well as 1 for the Worcester (pronounced "Wuss-ter", BTW), and 2 for the Salem in the second post. The Master Collection files have been updated with the Ms22 versions of all 3 ships, as well as the Buffalo. Guess I should get around to working on an Ms22 Helena skin, but I've got 341 Massachusetts games ahead of me to make it my most-played ship, so that's gonna keep my busy for a little while... --edit-- Oh, and as a bonus, I grabbed the old Ms22 carousel image for the Massachusetts, just before 7.6 updated it to the splinter-camo version: http://www.mediafire.com/file/u7lm3qhcuji6s4z/PASB518.png (put it in your ..gui\ship_previews folder) Edited June 29, 2018 by TheElusiveDenby

As you can see by my sig, this camo for the Massachusetts meant a lot to me. thanks for making it a reality! I AM having an issue using it though. I tried the "camo remover" mod from Ashlains, but it merely renders the plain steel hull, and removes camo from ALL other ships, including my Yamato, and Shimakazee camo's I want to keep. Could you please identify which specific Ashlain mod you use to change solely the Mass? Edited July 30, 2018 by nagasakee
