I find I get 1 or 2 drops per my 3 daily containers when I grind all the Exp playing Randoms only, I find playing the other modes doesn't drop anything, I'm not saying this is 100% but it was something I noticed, maybe give it a try and see if it works for you :)

Even if the Chance for no drop in three boxes is at 0.5% (just taking a random number that is low), this 0.5% must come from somewhere, otherwise it'd be 0%. So someone will have to pick the short straw and get this bad luck.

They want you to buy and use Harekaze and HSF Graf Spee  those guarantee drops of two portraits per container and you can use them each 20 times. Also Yamato and Musashi can be used  as well though you can only use them 10 times.  Also great ways to farm Zulu hotel flags since each container dropping by using those ships has them

Something frustrating I discovered (after 2 days after event started...6 containers wasted) is if you haven't finished the Yamamoto campaign collection yet you have to go to Profile>Collections & select the HSF campaign (which will toggle off the Yamamoto campaign item drops) in order to receive the HSF collection items in the daily containers.

Notice Key color changes from shiny gold to dull silver at top & green toggle button in bottom right hand corner (which will be red on HSF presently & red on Yamamoto once you toggle it (photos of red icons not included) if this applies to you...if it doesn't...wish you better luck tomorrow...but event goes until April 30th so there's still plenty of time...3 months & 1 week).

Have gotten over 10 crates, still no commander portrait. 

 

Also, where do you get the option to see the Yamoto commander collection? I remember I started it when it came out, but I didn't get anything from its supercontiners.

i concur it should be 100% drop rate, we will have dupes to deal with, don't make life even harder

Umm.......you are aware that you can just use your duplicates to finish the Yamamoto collection right now, right?  Hell, based on the number of duplicates you've acquired you probably could have finished the Yamamoto campaign several months ago.

To expand on what yashma said, for a collection item you don't have, but you do have the required amount of duplicates in stock, simply click on the empty item.  The game then asks you if you want to spend X duplicates to buy that item you don't have.  74 duplicates is a TON.

I haven't unlocked Yamamoto collection yet, and I have only ran into one or two null boxes so far...

If what Asia cluster stated applies to NA we should have the next eight months to finish it...

Either 10k or 15k...varies per campaign sometimes...most are 15k though.

Any better luck w/the item drops yet?

So, it turns out if you have saved crates, any new ones will not drop the commander portraits.
