Can you earn the new commanders in game through the collection or something, or do you have to purchase even the commanders without a ship?

I believe you can get them without purchasing a ship. Not too sure how easy it will be to get all the pieces though.

Unless I'm missing something, you can only get the commanders by purchasing them in the premium shop.

I had a feeling this would be the case, however there's a possibility to get them in campaign later possibly.... Eh who knows

I know I won't buy them considering how little they should be sold for

And $21 per commander is absurd.

Would've bought the new captains if they weren't $21 each. Stupid move by WG imo to make 10pt commanders cost so much, when I have too many 10pt commanders that were free just laying around. An option to buy them without all the crap "fluff" would be nice but asking too much from WG.

Bundle Math:

  Reveal hidden contents

Solo Captain Bundle

$21.59
1 Captain
7 Days of Premium $6.69
1500 Doubloons ~$7.98
25 Dragon Flags ~$1*
50 Zulu Hotel Flags ~$1.50
XP Mission Free
Non-Captain Bundle cost $17.17
Captain Cost $4.42
All Captains Bundle $79.99
6 Captains
7000 Doubloons ~$31.88
100 Dragon Flags ~$4*
100 Red Dragon Flags ~$4*
100 Hydra Flags ~$4*
200 Zulu Hotel Flags $6
Harekaze Camo $18.99
XP Mission Free
Non-Captain Bundle Cost $68.87
Captain Cost $1.85 ea.

* = generous guesses(likely worth double the estimate)

Full Bundle without the "supposed" discount would make each captain cost $8.66 each. Nearly double buying them separately.

Except you look at what else you get.

I ran the numbers you're actually getting more than the cost for the Commander in terms of the Flags Doubloons and Premium time than if you bought them individually ( $~23.42 worth of items vs $21.59 for stated price) and that's without the 10 Point commander
It's not an exact number as I had to estimate the cost of 25 Zulu Hotels (I halved the cost of the 50 pack) and the Dragon flags (June '17 event had those being $0.28 each so estimated at $7 for the pile)

The thing is i'm not interested in the rest of that. Buying a full combo for just a soda is wasting money and even premium ships are offered without the bloated extras. I would pay the $5 for just the commander but not $21 x 4 for stuff i don't need/want.

EDIT: For what is being offered in the pack, isn't a bad deal but for someone like me who only wants the commander, it is.

The HSF Commanders are only available for purchase in Premium Shop along with the Graf Spee and Harekaze.

Question Radar, if the ships are available to be purchased without the extra side stuff, why aren't the commanders?

consider the captains dont have any special abilities, why would you buy them?

The captains really should've had "maybe" a bundle of just the 4 that didn't come with Harekaze/Spee and no fluff, and individuals with no fluff

If they're like Thea and Akeno, then they should be fully voiced by the Voice Actress who played the character. For me, that is what makes them worth buying.

Exactly and I wouldve bought them already had that been an option.

A 10-point commander isn't going to come any cheaper than about $20. It's the same cost as converting 180k or so XP to level one up.

Problem with that logic is that FXP can be used on more than Commander training, which may be one of the worst ways to use it imo. Whereas Commander XP is honestly insanely easy to get and just not hard to lvl a commander to 10 anyways. Heck, they could sell them as 1-point and it may take a day to get them to 10pts.
