Interesting and informative review/opinion. I see here that the low skill floor/ceiling is considered to be positive? (I personally have no issue with that view, but it contrasts with reviews of other ships where this low skill ceiling has been slammed as a bad thing.)

It's neither a good nor a bad thing in and of itself. It simply means that a skilled player will not be able to use much trickery to pull more performance out of the ship. It means a ship is a simple one to play, and supreme skill will not significantly multiply your performance. As opposed to ships which have a high skill ceiling, which can sing and dance in the hands of a skilled player.

If the ship is strong in and of itself but still simple, like Musashi, having a low skill ceiling is not a bad thing. It it's a deeply flawed ship by itself, like Oleg for example, then no amount of skill can make it work significantly better than someone of more moderate skill already does.

Basically, skill ceiling reflects how much skill you need to bring to the table to bring out the best in the ship. Skill floor is how much skill you need to bring to the table to make it function on an acceptable level.

Premium Camouflage:  There are two available to this ship.  She comes with her Type 10 camouflage.  Y118 - Musashi may be purchased for 5,000 doubloons.

  •  Musashi's Type 10 camouflage provides100% bonus experience gains, a 20% reduction to maintenance costs, 3% reduction in surface detection and 4% reduction in enemy accuracy.
  • For fans of the anime series High School Fleet, there's the Y118 - Musashi.  On top of the bonuses described above, it also adds another +50% to Commander Experience.

I'm not a fan of anime, but I gotta say I actually like the HSF camo because it's closer to her historical appearance. :cap_like: I still wish she had the option to equip the dull gray camo though.

CONs

  • Doesn't have Yamato's gun sounds.  What the ever loving seagull turds on toast, Wargaming!?

Obviously this was done for balancing issues.  Most unfortunately with Yamato gun sound it would be too overpowered :Smile_amazed:

Very yes on toast.  Subjecting a Pensacola-class cruiser to 460mm guns is a level of fun everyone should experience before the American cruiser line gets redone.

Damn girl, that's just wrong. LOL

I gotta wonder, @LittleWhiteMouse, what prompted you to go with OVERPOWERED rather than your previous GUDBOTE opinion in the guise of an Angry Youtuber...

Jumping up from a 35 second reload to a 30 second reload.  That allowed her to overtake the top DPM spot.  So not only are you one of the toughest battleships at tier 9, you're now also the hardest hitting without contest.  This redefined what good firepower and good durability is at tier 9.  Iowa, Missouri, Izumo's guns all downgraded from highly competitive to just "meh".

Great write-up, Mouse!

She is definitely a ship with massive potential. Aggressive players such as myself will have to put aside our desire to push in and brawl early on to keep our guns in the fight as long as possible. More salvoes fired throughout the game can counteract any wonky dispersion that may be encountered. She will definitely benefit from division play--especially with an AA escort such as a radar cruiser with long range HE spamming capabilities.

I wonder if those people are reconsidering getting the Musashi now.

I fall into the camp of players who already have the Missouri and a Yamato with premium camo.  The Musashi is certainly a strong ship, but that does not change the fact it doesn't offer anything new or exiting.  The Missouri is a better credit farmer, and for the gameplay experience the Yamato looks to be just better.  The Musashi just wasn't meant for me, and I'm probably going to give it a pass.

*I do have to admit deep down the collectionist in me is very tempted by it, but 750k free XP is an awfully steep price to pay for what in all likelihood would turn out to be a port queen.  That being said I'll keep my options open and figure I will eventually pick it up some time in the future.

Worst AA defense of not only any of the tier IX battleships, but also worse than any of the tier VIII battleships.

Arguably, her AA defense is worse than New Mexico down at Tier 6.

I think Musashi is just a gudbote that is occasionally little overpowered. Especially like 1 out of 10 games that has Tier 7 in it.

Damn.  Nice evaluation.  I almost have the Free XP saved up to get this ship.  I have the Missouri for credit farming, so it may be  a port queen, but I just have to get it.

Her AA power would make her one of the best protected ships at tier 6 with only ships like Queen Elizabeth being better.  There's a big jump up to tier 7.

So this is just the Musashi in her configuration right after commissioning, hence the missing AA guns and the extra 152mm guns.  Looks she is about as OP as i thought she would be.
