Mission Frustration

Just needed to vent a bit.  I've been trying to complete the Battle of North Cape, mission 5, task 2, "Destroy 10 enemy battleships", and have been stuck on 7 for the last couple of days.  I can have great games and sink several ships, or bad games and sink none, but I can't finish off a battleship to save my life.  Eventually, I'll finish off another task, or finally get some battleships, but this is just so frustrating.

Aside from the frustration, I don't like this sort of task because it can entice you to choose against the interests of the team.  "Hmm, I should kill that destroyer that is threatening our CV, but I really need to get another BB."  I try to work for the team instead of to my tasks, but then you have a game like I had recently where I killed 2 cruisers and a DD, only to feel like it was a bad game because I didn't get a BB.  I feel like tasks should be general enough that you complete them by helping your team, not hurting it.

I tried that one and got two BBs before it seemed like every game the BBs were on the other side of the map. :Smile-angry: I gave up on it and went with repeating the 75k XP task. :Smile_child:

 Kill secure. And you're right, missions like this do nothing for team play or winning for that matter. They actually promote selfish play. The 90,000 torp damage is another one, do I cap, scout etc. or do I try and sneak around and try to get devastating strikes on BBs? May as well have a Belfast mission : Start 200 fires from smoke, for 100 arsonist flags. Wouldn't that be awesome?

I used a CV to Net several of the BB kills since even if the BBs sit on the back line I can reach them lol.

Finally finished the mission.  Got two with the Hiryu and one with the Izumo.  I still don't like this kind of mission.

I'm frustrated enough to pull my hair out over the end of this Battle of North Cape. I opted for the torp hits mission, because I did not think I could do the others in the time allotted. So I've been trying to torp things in my emerald all week.

Needless to say it's been an effort in frustration. The thing has 6 km range and gets a lot of tier 7 MM. But I have tried the Fiji and the Leander and I don't think they would be any better. And whether or not I could have finished the other quests in time is a moot point by now. I did not think I could, which is why I tried this one.

Anyway, the long and the short of it is that after a month of working for this it's not gonna happen. There just were not a lot of good options for this last set of missions.

Anyway... not happy at all. A wasted month of free time and a battleship I really would have liked to have had gone by the boards. :(

Love the game... but PLEASE... try to have the quests be less specialized next time. :(

When ever missions are released the Team is the loser every time. Makes no difference what the missions are, The player makes a conscious effort to complete the mission before the game battle button is pushed. Screw the team I need to do this first. And I mean all players are guilty of this. Don't try to bamboozle everyone by saying I play the battle with the team in mind everyone knows your full of it.

Actually, this is my point. Perhaps I worded it wrong, but I do go into the game thinking I will play for the team.  During the game, snap decisions are made and the missions influence them.  I am as guilty as anyone else of that, but that is part of what is frustrating.  When I resist the temptation to play to the mission (like the two cruiser, 1 DD game I referenced) I am penalized, not rewarded.  Too often, I play to the mission instead.  Missions that are for getting experience or other more general measures have less of a negative impact on team play.

Nothing personal implied but when Missions are given out before you press the Battle button your ship choice and tier are predetermined with the exact Mission in mind. So it is and can be said Me First the team is secondarie.

Repeat the XP one. I was able to do it twice.

However, now I am working on a task of getting maximum experience.  The best way for me to get maximum experience is to help my team win, so the task objective actually rewards me for team play instead of penalizing me for it.  In my mind this is a much better objective.
