Read the article and informative. Surprising to a point though. The Germans have always been great engineers and leaders in innovation.

The article never mentioned how bad this frigate conceptually is.   Missing a lot of things you expect for a frigate.  Like sonar.  Yeah like any sonar.  Bow mounted, hull mounted, VDS, TAS.  None of that.  But it has sonar to detect divers and swimmers.  Also lacks any ASW equipment of any sort like torpedoes.  It has two helicopters, which can be potentially used for ASW missions, but the helos assigned to it look more like army type helicopters that carry troops.  Has a state of the art AESA radar but only has point blank range RAM for air defense, when most frigates would have at least ESSM if even Standards.  It seems like the radar is only there to let you know ahead of what's going to sink it.  The Type 125 reeks of a special forces insertion ship, or more of a SAR ship for picking migrants off the Med, and defies categorization whether its a corvette, frigate or destroyer, since even corvettes have ASW equipment.  Oh, it has water cannons.  Probably the most armed about the ship is having 8 Harpoons.

My guess is it's the same engineers that design Mercedes and BMW's...  Impossibly complex for what they do, unreliable, and too expensive to repair when they break... :Smile_ohmy:

I am completely done with German automobiles.  No more.  Not ever.  My current American car though, is based on a German chassis.

Only German engineers would think it's a good idea to put the battery of a car in the trunk in a place where you have to disassemble most of that trunk to get at it and then after replacing it have to enter a security code via the car's factory stereo / radio to get it work again... (BMW).  :Smile_facepalm:

Oh I got a direct experience with that.

only with OBD2 and later vehicles. 94 and earlier were OBD1, and did not have the security lock (or CPU under the glove box). unless you had a 740iL. some models had 2 batteries, one of which was under the right rear passenger seat, and the other could be in the trunk, or beside the spare tire. these were treacherous, as removing one battery would remove power to the ignition system, but not the cooling system, so you could trigger a radiator fan while removing the radiator (which commonly failed) and cut the crap out of whatever was in the way. if you removed the wrong battery, the onboard security system would trigger, more than often sounding the alarm AND enabling the ignition disabler, which allowed the engine to be turned over, the fuel pump to pump, past the injectors, but would not allow spark to the coils. when this was reset, the plugs would fire, and the unburned fuel in the catalytic converter would sometimes ignite, blowing a tube of flame out the rear of the car for as far as 20 ft, igniting anything in range (including paint from customer cars, and clothing), and the deafening explosion would leave your ears ringing for days and sometimes rupture the cats.

this only happened to us about a dozen times in 4 years.

Originally the F125 was intended to be able to use the same 155mm gun system that was experimentally mounted on Hamburg. Anyone know what happened to that capability?
