Recently bought the Carolina and man... I'm struggling with it. Most games it's fighting tier 10 BB's with their car launcher cannons while the Montana's guns seem completely unable to damage them, even a medium range broad siding a Yamato only gave about 4-5k damage. At 15k or further (a safe distance to keep healthy) it seems to have a 10% hit rate and rarely does much damage. I'm doing the safe tactics of staying with others, facing the enemy and trying not to give my position away. It's not working well tho..

When I have spectated other Carolinas in battle, their cannons seem like railguns, flying off at a distant target before doing massive damage to it. Mine fly off like rockets then turn into snow flakes before just splashing harmlessly around the enemy ship. It happened so often in a earlier game where I could not hit or damage sitting stationary ducks at 15-18k range that I just gave up and parked the boat behind a island (my team had pretty much won the match anyway)

Also every 30 seconds another barrage of long range torpedos comes flying at me from some invisible DD that's staying out of visible range.

I have yet to research the better hull (which is going to take months and months at my casual play rate).

Just feel a bit peeved that I could've bought the Benson but decided to waste my cash and free XP on a very large XP generator for the enemy.

I love the NC. I even wrote a song about it.

The NC can sink any ship in the game. It can bounce any AP in the game if angled nose-on. It can just about defend itself from any CV in the game too if spec'd out right.

It has problems if caught broadside so be aware of your surroundings. If facing a Conqueror no matter how you are oriented, get some shells into him and then get someplace he can't hit you.

Spec the NC out with a concealment build and you will go out of sight before your shells land if you are positioned correctly. It's hard to hit a ship that's blinking in and out of detection, especially when everytime you see it, it has already hit you.

If you have torp detection problems then use the vigilance skill. You have to keep nose-on to torp threats though, and keep moving too.

Don't shoot at things 20 km or more away. Use stealth and get in to 15 km or so before you fire. You will be pleased at the results.

If you see multiple targets, shoot the most broadside ones first.

This ranked season in my NC (I stopped at 10)

56 games

51.79% wins

50,661 average damage

1,015 average score

You should have done the grind to get the ship and saved the free XP for the modules, and did you purchase the upgrades for it? Are you running premium consumables? Captain skills?

Are you still running the A-hull?

I can understand where your coming from, I had a love/hate relationship with mine because not only is she a very different ship from the rest of the USN line but also your in a vastly different meta, it is very jarring. I love the NC now and all I can say is spend some time in co-op to learn the guns and take your time to get used to high tier play

All A hull ships suffer.  If you get to the B hull and have all the upgrades, then it is a beast.  I don't have the NC but do have the Alabama, which is essentially the same as the NC.   I really like it and it can definitely shred the enemy.  I agree with the others here.  The best range is around 12 to 15km.  The gun dispersion is acceptable at those ranges and you can land multiple shells on target per volley.   I find I get more big hits per shot in this ship than I do with the Missouri. I have to qualify it though.  I have only played the Alabama in ranked where it only sees other T8s.  The Missouri routinely sees T10.

Stick with the NC, you will find it a very satisfying ship once you get the hang of it.

Odd, I fought a NC in my Yammy last night who citadeled me from 18km out because I had to dodge torps.  I think you need to account for RNJesus, because NC has pretty good guns.  Even a Yamato is going to have low dispersion rolls and straddle a ship or bounce shells every once in a while.  Just keep firing, it only takes a few salvos with a BB to drastically change the outcome.
