Have you ever put yourself in harms way to save a teammate

I turned my yammy into several torps yesterday to save a DD sitting in smoke that was going to be deleted.  ( DD i saved won the game for us in the end)

I took on 3 Tirpitz and a Hinde and a Khab on a flank to rescue a Bismarck that found itself all alone and running for cover.  (We won the game) (Bismarck I helped out finished with 2 kills)

Sometimes it is worth loosing a little HP for the greater good

Yes, if I'm in a destroyer or cruiser and torps are heading for my teams battleship, I will "take one for the team" and take the damage to protect the BB. This sacrifice then will hopefully get our team the victory. It's a good strategy and like you said is for the greater good of the team. Hmm... maybe there should be a "Team Player" achievement? Just an idea. Good luck in the high seas!

Ive sacrificed myself (DD) way too many times in my WOWS career for others.

Maybe 50/50 it was worth it.

I don't do it as much these days.

I do this a lot in the scenarios where you have to escort a ship and keep it alive. I finally found that the best way to win Raptor Rescue was to sail my Arizona to its immediate right and soak up torpedoes.

Team mate ran aground with incoming torps on him. So I rammed him so hard he turned into them and lived. I gained TK status for saving his ship.

I can't say I've actually took one for the team, like turning my ship into oncoming torps to protect a ship.  I would turn my BB into a torp or 2 if I knew I had plenty of health and those torps would hit a DD and kill it.  I have opened up from a cruiser at long range to try to entice the enemy to fire on me instead of some of our closer ships.

I mean I generally and a front lines fighter and may occasionally take a torp not intended for me (yes I was paying attention.... I think)

Sacrificing for others maybe not, as you have no guarantee as to their prowess, but take one torp to help them live? 100% will do whether I like it or not cause I don't always have the best situational awareness...

On purpose? No, but then again I'm usually in a BB so I can't exactly dive in front of a bullet. By accident? Oh my yes.

There was also one time when someone else "volunteered" to take damage for me. Allow me to explain.

Be me. Yamato. Huge and slow to turn. Slow to stop turning. Slow to change speed in any way. Momentum is my god. See torp wall coming. Start turning to comb through it. Suddenly, friendly DD darts in front of me. Gets stuck on my bow. Stare at the situation in horror. Cut power to the engines. Stop turning. Nothing helps. "I'm so sorry!" I say in chat as I unintentionally use that poor DD like a riot shield going through the torp wall.

Thank god he had a sense of humor about it.

Yea done it many times. Mainly if I see reds bearing down on our CV and theirs is still alive and doing well.

The only time I do this is if I'm confident the person I'm saving is worth saving.

I used to sacrifice myself "for the team" way too much. Then I realized that as an above average player, doing this was most often hurting my win rate..

I can understand saving a DD by taking a torp in your BB, but the opposite is a tactically poor decision.

HAHAHAHAHA, are you serious?

With the current reward mechanics? oh lord that's hilarious.

No, absolutely not, not only that it's actually better for me if the team's over all are morons. A quick low damage win actually loses money. Rather a high performance loss than a low damage win. It's unfortunate, but as long as WG designs the game to not allow a player without premium account/economy flags, to at least break even with average performance pass certain tiers. No, absolutely will not "save" my team.

yes, all the time. I try to contest a cap in an IJN DD after the fletcher runs away, or lay down smoke for a BB that won't use it.

these pale compared to my favorite, frequent, save the team suicide. team chat; "A, then B." me types: "i'll support A!" this ends up solo. nobody else heads to A. alone again. hi coral, grow on me.

Once I was in a tier 3 game (or 4) in my St. Louis and one of my team mates was being attacked by 3-4 enemy ships. I raced to help him and started killing ships but being focused on by all the enemies I died before I could kill them all.

I did manage to save my team mate, but mostly because he ran away and let me deal with them all. Had he stayed and helped we would have killed them all.

I don't remember if we won the game.

well i did not die and lived to the end lol.  But if i had not chose to take 3 torps to keep the DD alive we would have had no DD's and lost the game as it was a close game in the end and the cap points our DD was able to secure sealed the win for us

I did one time with my almost sunk La Galissonnière to keep a Bayern from taking a load of torpedoes from a DD (a IJN not sure which one I think it was a Hatsuharu ). The funny thing was the Bayern player called me a stupid NooB player for not dodging the torps:Smile_facepalm:

We still lost and he was still sunk by the DD player, later in the game. Now I will only do it for someone from my clan or I know already.

I was scratching my head on this one too, considering some DD's can be one shot deleted by a torp hit.  Whereas BB's can take several hits and easily survive.

only my div mate, or MMM clearly shows they are worth the save

before smoke change i remember going to smoke up for teammate yamato

that was after i engage enemy DD, win the battle and kill enemy DD but have  <1k HP left

i spotted overlapping shima torps going towards the already slowed down yamato(he was ready to stop for my smoke), so i hit T ,then did a drift and beach myself on div mate yamato.....

ofc i sank, but my corpse ate like 8torps at least, it was hilarious

Yes I do this from time to time when I see one of my ships is in trouble and I'm close and haven't been detected I will start opening fire with my Destroyer just because I know everybody will stop to start shooting at me, times it'll help distract the red team for long enough

I've been known to do it from time to time, even in co-op. I usually only do it if I think that player has a better likelihood of contributing more for the team than I do, so it happens mostly when I'm shot to bits and nearly dead anyway. I have been known to follow a ship that is otherwise by themselves on one side of the map, just so they have some back up (seeing as I mostly play co-op anymore anyways, 'by themselves' can also mean they are the only other human player on that side of the map).

Yup. That's what BBs are for. Many times I've put myself in between a team-mate and the reds so they can focus me instead. It's also great when someone does it for me. I have purposely eaten a torp or two in my time as well.

My other tactic is to open fire at longer range in a low hp cruiser to distract the reds from someone else. Often I can't help the team anymore because of my low HP, and baiting the reds sometimes relieves pressure on someone else more important. Usually I die, but I've bought time because WASD hack.

way to often, and 90% of the time it's me trying to save a BB player rushing in like a nut,  I end up dying
