True autistic people would not get offended by using autistic as an insult because they wouldn't get it.

So you are feeling offended for someone else. How dare you to think the autistic people needs YOU to do the defense for them?

I think it's pretty safe to say that you don't have any idea what you are talking about.  Autistic people are far from stupid or ignorant of what is going on around them.

In addition, no one here is trying to "defend" people who are the target of insults, but to implore people to have the common decency to not act like turds in the first place.

So I am going to assume you read the phrase 'high-functioning autistic' and your eyes glazed over.

Again, how dare you to think autistic people needing your protection?

Again, you are completely missing my point.  Is asking you to have respect for others, "defending them?"  Is asking you to have respect for others (thinking before you hurl insults) a bad thing?  If so, I guess I am guilty of whatever it is you are implying...

FYI..  Here's a link about 11 Myths of Autism at Autism Speaks (which addresses your "true autistic people" comment)...  https://www.autismspeaks.org/node/113471.

To start off with, I'm someone who doesn't need a special name to put myself in a group because I have a mental disorder. As I don't identify with my condition, nor do I let it define me.

I'm going to ask people to politely stop trying to ban words they don't like. We get enough of that. People that go around banning words, or telling people they can't say certain words certain ways are literally cancer.

If you can't handle the fact that people use words you don't like, or how they chose to use certain words then the internet is no place for you. I will not be censored because of your feelings. Because at the end of the day, I don't care about your feelings. And I don't expect or demand that you care about mine. Because feelings are subjective. And you have no right to demand that I change the way I speak, or live, based off your feelings.

But thanks for being a polite thought police. But I wholly disagree with you, and refuse your request.

Have a nice day!

It's just not helpful and marginalizes a condition that millions of people live with. I'd just like to see the community as a whole to better itself in that regard.

If you were autistic you wouldn't be here....

My my what the world is coming to.

Depends on who you ask. The "Science" based end of the world cult thinks it's coming to an end.

Some religious people think it's coming to an end.

Me? I think it was a natural course correction very dearly needed. Everything is working exactly as it should.

It depends on what definition of "autistic" you're using. If you're using the modern one, there are people called "high functioning autists." If you're using the ancient one, well, who still uses the ancient one?

The point was.. not many people. It's the agreement upon a certain definition that gives it meaning. I could redefine any word I want to mean anything I want.. that doesn't mean it means whatever I want.

That's just, like, your opinion man.

I don't think language is based off consensus. That is what has gotten us into this mess.

Certain terms and phrases have always differed from place to place. A word in one place might mean something entirely different than somewhere else, and often does mean something different.

Weird that dictionaries exist then.

It goes both ways.  People should be less toxic you are right.  But ALL players need to be more mindful of how their actions (or inaction) may actually be fueling the toxicity they actually want to see less of.  We can't beat the stupid out of someone, but we can be stupid on our own time (co-op, training room, sticking to low tiers, or playing other games more suitable to our ability). And I promise you, if people adjust to being stupid on their own time, the level of ridicule they'll receive will drop dramatically.  Simple example.  If I want to see what it's like to lick a frozen piece of metal, I'll do it on a railing in my own back yard.  Not on an active railroad track.
