I'll indulge your frustration.

 

Typically steady damage output.  BBs can nuke the s--t out of stuff, that's how they do damage, but Cruisers have more consistent, easier to use, faster guns but lower damage output.

 

Later on, some get utility to help leverage a win via use of Radar and some very good Hydro (German Hydro is the best, especially high tier).

 

You have to survive to do any of this though and staying alive is the single-most important thing with a Cruiser because it's very easy to get blapped.

 

You are not a scout, not even the super stealthy ones like Minotaur, Belfast, Perth, Leander, etc.  DDs will easily outspot you then the BBs will obliterate you.  You are hanging with or behind the BBs.  You can probably afford more to push ahead and work around a bunch of islands, but pushing ahead with no island cover, you're begging to get obliterated.

Cruisers back up DD's when pushing caps, cover BB's with AA, provide the enemy with something else to shoot that's more squishy than my BB.

They can kill and damage ships of ALL types.  Yes, they can and do kill BBs.  I do that lots in a potent cruiser like St Louis or Svetlana....she gots torps! OP don't you like it when you can kill a BB pretty easy because a cruiser already took down it's hit points?  Bet ya do.  Don't you like it when cruisers get rid of those pesky DDs that can kill you?  You want 3-4 DDs after you with no cruisers to stop em?  I doubt it.   Don't you like it when a cruiser is right with you with that great DPS helping you do your thing on another BB? I like to run with a BB....makes for a potent combo IF the BB will actually FIGHT.  Oops......sorry. :Smile_popcorn:

Cruisers are jack of all trades, they can do a little of everything. They add a lot of utility to the team. Give heavy gun support to DDs and DPS for the BBs.

 Simple be a hooligan and ruin everyone else's game in some fashion.

Utility, hardcore utility through versatility and flexibility. Probably why at t1 WG restricts all but the Black Swan to HE shell only; to get the potential cruiser driver to understand why the HE round is so important to the fleet. Even at higher tiers, dds die mainly to their modules getting broken. BBs die if they don't manage their damage con and heals after proper angling.

Furthermore, believe it or not scouting by screening the fleet is another form of utility.

What I mean by screening is this: you are ahead/away from the battleships and carriers but within range of their effective fire, and with friendly dds within rang of your effective protection; to spot incoming torpedoes and shoot down encroaching aircraft and break modules of apposing destroyers.

Unless ur French, or your dd buddy is a Khabarovsk or Tashkent, you should never be far from either segment your protecting. 

Cruiser consumables, are for the mist part compensation for the increasing capabilities of your enemies: helping you to continue to support your team. The same job you were doing at t1 you be doing at t10.

That is the cruiser end.

You may ask "but what about kills?"  As far as your job as a cruiser is concerned? Kills are coincidental..

As a BB sailor, I love my cruiser escorts. They keep the planes off of me, and keep the DDs from invisitorping my long and unmaneuverable hull. I will often deliberately shoot at ships targeting CAs to get them to waste shells in my belt armor. 

As a CA sailor, I absolutely hate being a CA, because I just fired 6 salvos on a Bismark and he only got one fire, what the heck WG.

Often have problems with "sailing with the fleet" in a cruiser. Enemy BBs will target you first so you have to dodge and weave to (hopefully) avoid an early death. That turns the fleet in bumper cars.
