So, my ship was very nearly dead.  I was capping and the other team had no chance of getting to me in time.  There was a team member in the cap who also had very little health.  They were stationary.  The throttled up and T-boned me.  They wrote "I wonder if this will kill me?" as they were pushing in to me.  I throttled up to try and get off the other ship, but as I did the other ship turned to keep me on their bow.  My health was decreasing and I believed that I was going to die, so I shot them dead.  I had a couple of hundred HP when I shot them.  Is this justified?

there is never a good reason to intentionally TK another player... he made you do exactly what he wanted. he got killed, no loss to him, you got TK status and it's in your "record" now.

It is said two wrongs don't make a right. However, we are talking about humans...so two wrongs are inevitable.

I had no way of getting off his bow.  I had to shoot him or die.  But it seems that people think I should have let him kill me?  Why is that?  Why should I let myself die because of another player's idiocy?

Two wrongs don't make a right, but two right brothers can make a.... n/m that's the plane game lol

But to answer the OP question, No, there is never a "valid" reason to TK.

Well, TK'ing should be shunned.   Regardless of circumstance.

However, I do find myself wishing to TK folks sometimes.    I probably would have considered it if I had the same situation.

No need to vent or seek justification on the forum boards.    If you felt better shooting him in that situation, that's yer reward.  Take your pink status, work it off, and load up another match.

If you had a replay, you could open a ticket for him doing that, let WarGaming deal with it.  Much better option.

Well, it's been my experience that ramming or getting rammed by a team mate doesn't usually result in a whole lot of damage.  Like anywhere between 5 and 40 points, depending on speed and angle.  So it probably wasn't necessary to avoid the ram to survive.

It is sad, but games like this one will almost inevitably pick up its share of griefers. As others have stated, the guy who was shipping you was doing it on purpose because that is what a griefer—which is a form of troll who actively interferes with gameplay—wants you to do. They are looking to elicit a reaction from you, and unfortunately, you gave it to him.

Look mate, I know how you feel, like you were put between a rock and a hard place with no realistic option, but we all go through it. It is a learning experience; you deal with it, and move on.

Actually, if he had kept pushing him, both ships would have steadily lost HP until one or both of them sank. I've seen people with extremely low health die from rubbing up against a friendly...to my eternal shame, it was an old clanmate of mine I was divisioned with, and it ended up throwing the match.

Because in shooting him you dropped down to his idiocy level, you could of also easily died by sinking him due to reflective damage.

What's worse, dying in one game, or being pinked for 10 or more games?

If teamkilling someone is what turns a win into a loss, than then, and maybe only then could it be argued to be justified.

Because killing him means you gave him exactly what he wanted, and now you're flagged as a teamkiller.

Congratulations, you got played like a cheap fiddle.

There is a flaw in the game mechanics that if  you are low on health and the other team can kill you they get points, where if your team kills you they do not get the points and you can win. This should be fixed because any time a ship dies the points should go to the opposing team. There then would never be a reason to team kill.

Justified. Not even a hard question.

Did you end up getting the cap? Those XP points, credits, etc. were not his to take away from you. He was attempting to TK you, kill himself and possibly cause the team to lose. Stopping him is a no-brainer. You 100% did the right thing.

People here act like TKing involves actual physical harm or something. Get real!

And being pink, especially if you're not out there trying to intentionally cause team damage, is basically meaningless.

I've had BBs do that. Just push a cruiser out in the open. Report them, send in a replay to support but don't kill them.

Only flaw there is a deliberate tker who wants to handicap the team even more could kill teammates and further increase the score disparity due to the other team getting the points.

This. Never intentionally TK. It makes you go pink, it is on your record, and it gives the real problem player the satisfaction of winning. Betetr to let them kill you and turn the replay in to WG so THEY can deal with it. I have had to do that 2 X's in my 5K battles. Never once did I think of returning fire. Just makes me part of the issue.

For me, it’s better that the a-hole turns pink instead of me.  Report him, send a replay etc.

Also, two wrongs don’t make a right, but three rights DO make a left.

When people say it goes on my permanent record, what does that mean?  I can't get a job as a policeman or school teacher?

I didn't take any joy at killing him.  Only relief at not dying myself..  And had I died then there was a chance that the other team could have made it back to their base.  Sure winning isn't everything, but potentially throwing a victory away feels... wrong.

What is karma?  What number is good, what is bad?  I just found it on my profile page.
