One thing to keep in mind, the soldiers entering this war didn't know why they were fighting it.  French soldiers were mobilized to defend her country.  German soldiers mobilized to defend their country from Russia.  What were the German soldiers to think while they were invading France?  The Great War was not a war of hatred, at least not at first.  The opening stages of the war were of mass confusion.  A war without reason.  

It was only after the fact that we accept the reasons of "For the murder of the Archduke" or "For Alsace-Lorraine", but the reality is, these were lies to give meaning to the carnage.  That's why events like this Christmas Truce happened, because there seemed to be no cause to the madness, that they could get together for a small moment of calm, and reason.

I love Extra Credits! I haven't watched any of his vids in soooo long! This is such a great story, despite the oversimplification. I love the idea of competitive caroling haha
