I’m definitely not opposed to a contest like this. I’ll make sure to mark this thread for future consideration.

My early pitch is a long river map used in a scenario that's roughly analogous to the Raid on the Medway in 1667.   Fight your way up the river to blast ships in anchorage before they can launch.

I was thinking Venice...

You & I's maps wouldn't be any good for pvp but I certainly think it'd be cool to blast my way through Venice to destroy a key objective or series of key objectives.    Getting to do the types of stuff horribly unfair in PvP is what makes the operations so much fun.  Venice endorsed!!

Adding small gunboat swarms would also be a really fun addition to pve inside Venice.

I remember some kind of map suggestion thread or something somewhere, I was gonna put Halifax's name in, and have the player's ship surrounded by a convoy preparing to depart.
But we could surely use a port for each country in the game, which leaves Italy, Poland, Australia and a bunch of ports between Okinawa and Ceylon

It has been done on ASIA and we haven't get any map from it yet.

The contest here would probably be for fun. Not necessarily to be put in game. However, if the maps are awesome enough and make sense for the game, there wouldn’t be any harm in submitting them to the folks who design the maps.

Maybe have them be scenario maps? Or why not take it a step further with a design a scenario contest?

Though you might like it. I know some people have suggested historical recreations (like the Dunkirk scenario) such as Jutland, Surigao Strait, Samar and Guadalcanal (First and Second Naval Battle). Another interesting thing about historical ideas is that we can do both sides of the battle, like in the Surigao strait scenario you can cross the T as the American BBs from Pearl Harbor as well as make torpedo runs on Fuso and Yamashiro. While on the other side you can try to overwhelm the long odds to smash your way into Leyte Gulf. And as for Samar, well that would be fun as hell on both sides.

Hey

How about more challenging maps; maybe a bit more like how some of the maps used to look like, taller mountains, ambush points, channels, stuff you would find in real life, that sometimes favor one ship class over another.  Less cookie cutter islands that everyone can shoot over or around.  Maybe a map where the task is to escort a game generated convoy and one teams escorts, while the enemy tries to sink all ships, much like a operations.  Have the convoy sail open water, or around islands, etc. for variety.  Just a thought.

Pete

I'm up for it.  May not enter, due to having a horrible sense of balance, but it would be interesting to hear the community's opinions on map design.

I want to see basically a map of NYC but partially submerged so your sailing through the streets....  Then again I think free for all "top gun" games would also be hilarious and awesome at the same time (because I used to play paintball and my field did that as the last game each session).
