The True Meaning of Santa Crates

As expected, the day has seen dozens of topics about how to get the 'best return' from buying the crates, how the drop tables are changed, whether buying lots of crates at once is better than spread-out buying, whining "I can't get (insert rare ship) without buying $50,000,000 in crates!", how they are a ripoff because they're just junk and no ships ever drop, etc.

Here's an idea.  Buy a crate *for someone else*.  (No, not me.)  Pick someone at random, or someone who posted something that you appreciated.  Christmas is about showing love *for others*, not about buying for ourselves.

I know WG makes money from these things but if I were in their shoes I'd be sorely tempted to file 13 the whole idea next year and just give everyone a new Tier I cruiser shaped like a lump of coal.

Good point, sometimes we get caught up in ourselves too much.

Merry Christmas, hope you all get something you like.

+1 - My clan members all have a Crate waiting under their tree (I’m in a small clan..lol!) - Cheers & Happy Holidays for having the right spirit! o7

While I appreciate the sentiment, at the end of the day these are loot crates, and people are going to approach them with a “big score” mentality.

For what it’s worth, I’ve already gifted some crates to people, but I gifted myself with a lot more :Smile_teethhappy:.

long as it's a Tier 1 Premium ship...   That would be great.  Wouldn't care if it was shaped like a potato either.  I'll make it work somehow.

And, of course,  This season is about giving.  Dare I say, "Merry Christmas" without getting a strike on my posts?

Yeah, I know they will, and I don't expect my rant will change it one iota. ;)  I was just a bit fed up, that's all.  But I've had my company Christmas party this afternoon so I'm feeling a bit better. :D

I'll take that under advisement. ;)

Works for me!  I did carefully tiptoe around the whole religious connotation in my post, because we all know you can't discuss that kinda stuff without triggering someone.  Seriously, my wife is an event planner at a major university.  You should see all the ... stuff she has to deal with just to have a 'holiday event'.   Can't call it a party.  Can't call it 'Christmas'.  Has to be some form of training.  No Christmas music.  It's soul-crushing.

That stuff that she has to deal with has basically become a religion all its own.

Yes, and it's temple is our nation's education system, unfortunately.  But that's gonna start getting us into political/religion territory and get the thread locked, so lets not discuss that further. ;)

Agreed.

That said, here's an idea that might possibly make it easier (and less expensive, given how international transactions tend to work) to give than simply receive this Christmas via Wargaming products. For the Santa Crates at least, make it possible for us to fill out a list of players to gift them to (set a max of, say, twenty at one go), then select the value of the crate (for simplicity's sake, let's say you have to select one value for all on the list) and quantity of crate per player, and then buy them all at once. Each crate will then be distributed to the indicated players through the usual process, and the gift-giver will have only paid one lump sum. Wargaming does not lose any money on this, and the players involved get precisely what they wanted—the chance to spread Christmas cheer.

So speaking on this subject. I chose to buy crates as a gift, however I never saw a prompt on the website to pick a recipient. When does it ask you who the recipient will be?

There is a side benefit for you in that your clan gets oil as well. Our PvE clan has all the buildings, except for the expansion ones. So the crates my clan got helped out with getting that next building.

Gifting your favorite forum contributor or video poster helps those that spend so much time on this game. A certain cat and mouse got a little bit under the tree.

When you select "as a gift" under purchase options, type in the user's name (and select it from the drop down box.)

Let me try again and see if I get a phone call from my bank. :)

Seems like the Crates are a rip off.

Better to give something that is worthwhile.

So we won't send you any.

I won't turn you away.  I already got 11 ships and a six-month premium time today.  That was just the big stuff.

If you are trying to pitch Charity then why not give the money to an actual Charity.

Because when someone gets a gift, it brightens their day. A couple of people I sent crates too had bad days and this was a bright spot. Not life changing, but hey, if it can brighten someones day, you never know when that can be life changing. I know from personal experience.

Honestly, this merely tempts me to send you one.  Precisely the attitude that prompted this post to begin with.  Do you still sneer at the socks your grandma gets you for Christmas?
