Santa Box Mechanics changed WATCH YOUR SPENDING!

Per multiple devs, the mechanics for the rolls have been significantly changed since Christmas 2016. Ships now possess an extended script that decreases their odds from each box, while the odds of less useful things like flags and camos are increased. Guys be careful with how you spend you money, these are NOT the same boxes that we had last year. Please be careful with how you spend your money this year.

I am not saying not to buy them, just keep track of how much its costing you. Don't get carried away with your spending.

P.S Just a minor update. Tried the SAME protocol for unlocking premiums as I did last year, it didn't work. Buying boxes 3-5x at a time progressing from lowest to highest does NOT in any way increases your odds of unlocking premiums ships with the new mechanics in place.

Thanks for the head’s up. I’ve already invested a ridiculous amount of money into World of Tanks crates, so I was never going to dump a bunch of money into these anyhow. Last year I thought of them as presents, this year they’re more like stocking stuffers.

I figured out the change right off, and have already hit my limit for this year. More, the less useful, so to speak, things that last year were all over the place aren't this year. This year's event is worth about a third what least year's was. So, yes, please watch your spending, you won't get the value you did last year. Not to say don't do it, but realize you aren't going to get the return you did last time around, ok?

I pretty much own all the premiums I want.  I'm really more interested in the free xp, premium time, signals, and camos.  Not too worried about it.

6 $1 crates, 6 $3 crates, 1 $5 crate....zero ships. Lots of free XP which I don't want, some flags, camo and some doubloons.....not impressed.

Uh, that's because you're not doing it right. At all. Haven't you heard the old idiom 'you've got to spend money to make money'...? Buy 20x of the $3 crates and I can almost guarantee you'll net a ship or two.

Honestly, this was the same last year - the people doing the loudest whining were the ones refusing to pony up the dough.

I appreciate all of you posting your results.

Last year I spent almost $100 on Santa crates.

This year I was going to spend about the same, plus $50 for a year of premium time.  The premium time sale was a bust (for me).  The tech tree premium ship sale was a nice touch, WG.  So are the free Vampire, Duke of York, and the tier 6 tech tree ships.

*Edit.  Against my better judgment, I bought 20x $3 crates.  Sigh.  I am such a sucker.  If I get Gremy, premium time, Kidd, and Hood, I swear I will poop a brick.

They changed it this year, doing the same thing as last year DOES NOT work. Buying them in 3-5x at a time, progressively in 1->3->5 order does NOT work anymore.

Uh huh. I've spent $120ish so far - haven't seen anything resembling a change. Still wound up with 6 ships, a bunch of coin, and a lot of camo and flags.

I spent about twice that, and got 11 ships, and a huge pile of other stuff.  Got a ship about every 7th midsize or big box.  Small boxes got no ships, though.  Also an 180 day premium.

I'm perfectly happy with it.  I made my money back on the ships alone, and the 180 day premium, the doubloons, and the other stuff was just gravy.

It's just best to not buy the Santa boxes if you are trying to get something specific.  I'm not dropping the exact ships I'd like, but I have received what I think is fair value or better for what I have spent.

Yeah, If you're 'expecting' Ship X, this is probably not the way to get it.

I had no preconceived notions of what I was going to get  I'm happy with my selection.  A bit of this, a bit of that.  I even got the 1 USN premium (other than MO) that I didn't have.  Also, the 10 point captains were probably worth more than the ships, for me.  Again, I wasn't here last year, as I'm fairly new.

Mutsu; Atago; Kidd; Okhotnik; Leningrad; Graf Spee; Gallant; Hood; Loyang; De Grasse; Perth.  Plus a 180-day Premium time.  

On top of that is enough flags and camo to keep me going all year.  The ships alone paid back the money spent.  I'm happy with it.

I spent $40 on gift boxes and I got:

Kii with 10 point captain

60 Frost Fir Camo

30 Wyvern Flags

15 Hydra Flags

30 Dragon Flags

6,000 doubloons

60,000 free XP

plus some various other stuff.

Made out like a bandit, I think. Very happy with what I got for $40. Can't beat that deal.

Bought 5 $2.99 boxes for $13.29 specifically to get the Gremy and Nik, with the 2 free ones it made seven boxes and I now am the owner of a Gremy and Nik and got 4 x 1000 gold and 10,000 FXP.

That's actually very good luck on just 7 boxes.  I was averaging a ship per 7 mid or big boxes.  2 ships in 7 is well within things, but to get the exact 2 you wanted?  That's luck!
