Most interesting to me was the last question:  What did the Admiral feel was the turning point of the war?  His answer was not Midway but the occupation of Saipan.

That's not too surprising as after Midway the Japanese still had a lot of their fleet left and many planes as well. The Battle of the Philippine Sea took place while Saipan was being invaded including the Marianas Turkey Shoot when the Americans neutered the Japanese ability to do any significant carrier operations. Also the capture of the Marianas finally allowed sustained long range bombing of the Japanese home islands and eventually the delivery of the atomic bombs that ended the war.
