When I Told My Friend My Tale

A  re-envisioning of "A Whiter Shade of Pale" by Procol Harum

Is this re-envisioning base on a true story? Well, I used to scuba dive and also used to have a girlfriend. You can make up your own minds.

 

I slipped beneath the waves
Swam out 'cross the ocean floor
I was feeling kinda seasick
But this feeling I ignored
The sea went deathly silent 
And my breath it went away
I reached out for my backup air
Thinking this was my last day

And so it was that later
As I told my friend my tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale

She said, "There is no reason
that you should venture out to sea"
And I pondered what she'd spoken
But I could not with her agree
There was something I could not explain
That drew me to the coast
It was more than just the waves and tides
But her mind might have well been closed

And I still recall the time
When I told my friend my tale
And her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale

She said, "I must you leave,
If you must venture out to sea"
And though I said I'm usually safe
She could not quite agree
Saying, "You are not a mermaid,
Yesterday you nearly died"
And though she smiled at me so sweetly
I must admit I almost cried

And I still recall the time
When I told my friend my tale
And her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale

If a man should be in love 
But also must pursue a dream
Then which path is he to follow
If the reason why he can't explain?
When his mouth's as dry as cardboard
And the words stick to his tounge
When he thought that he'd found happiness
But then quickly it was gone

And I still recall the time
When I told my friend my tale
And her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale

You wouldn't believe how many things I've shot in my life, or how many things I've killed.
