So I am debating between getting the harekaze or the nelson and premium camo for the iowa. I loved the US dd line and I made it all the way to the gearing with fletcher, farragut and the sims being my favorite us dd. However, I have been also enjoying the north carolina and I'm almost to the iowa which was my goal. I was wondering which option people thought would be more enjoyable and what are the general thoughts on the three ships. I will include a poll for those who don't feel like commenting

Harekaze is the quintessential IJN DD. If you like IJN stealth torpedo boats Harekaze is arguably the best one. It's a modified Kagero, I like both. All lines in all nations have their flavor. I would suggest playing at least a Fubuki (T6) before buying something to see if you like the playstyle. I can't speak for Nelson other than to say I'm not afraid of it when it's on the red team.

Then you've only encountered terrible Nelson players?

Harekaze can be nice.

Nelson is potentially good, but takes a more practiced hand than many other battleships. Dunkerque and Izumo experience is a plus.

Missouri might be a brtter choice if IJN destroyers don't suit you.

I would hold off due to a few key things, OP.  You haven't reached Iowa yet but you are getting there.  Iowa is nothing at all like North Carolina's playstyle, nor even Montana.  Give tech tree Iowa a whirl first before considering the perma camo.  Iowa style of play may not agree with the NC style of play.  And by extension, Missouri.  If you end up not liking Iowa gameplay, then Missouri isn't going to make it really better and you'd have sunk a huge amount of FreeXPs into a ship who's style of play may not agree with you.

Personally I feel safer in an Alabama as a Tier VIII in a Tier X match than I do in a Tier IX Iowa / Missouri in a Tier X match.  The style of play of the Iowa-class is very restrictive.

As a DD main, I love the Harekaze. For several reasons.

1. People never know how you are configured. Smoke? Reload Booster? Which guns and do you have IFHE?

2. You have so many options to set it up. I personally have settled currently on torpedo reload booster and the 5"/54 guns.

Harekaze my man! My 1st high tier boat and I have thoroughly enjoyed it to the max!

I studied LWM's review like a Jewish boy studies his prayers for Bar-Mitzvah ( before the snowflakes cry "Racism", I am half Jewish and in my 50's still utter those prayers).

I watched every video I could find. I was careful as I had done the forbidden thing of buying a Premium above my earned tier.

It was a blast and a revelation and still is.

I have enough FXP to get a Nelson, but I feel no urge...waiting to earn 200k more FXP for the Mo.

I don't look twice at a Nelson in battle regardless of which side she's on....but I always notice a Harekaze and sometimes pull the shot if she's on the other team...she's that good.

An aside...it has no hydro, but conceals down to 5.4 klicks w/ conceal tier 4 Cmdr. skill and the 5th slot Conceal module.

Plus tier 8 Premium earns way better credits then lesser tiers, especially if you can DD!  If not, she can teach a willing student...she's that good.

Pass on the Iowa if you like the gameplay style of the lower tier US BBs.

The Iowa is nothing but a paper tiger.  Sure it has a lot of hitpoints, but they get dissolved so fast you could double them and the ship would still be nothing but a damage crop for the enemy team.  I got out of it as soon as I could.  It's a terrible boat, really it is.

The Alabama and Montana are far better ships.

ElAurens? Lawrence of Arabia? My second favorite film!  Agree with you...I love my Alabama and find thar she is Strong and Stout...if I had to pick one BB it'd be Her...such a Darling and a beauty to boot!

Yup I chose the name as it is my favorite film of all time, and T.E. Lawrence was a very interesting person.

I used to think that USS Colorado was the worst US BB in the game, but not any more.  Iowa will forever hold that crown.

My next door neighbor when I was growing up served on Alabama during the war, so she has a place close to my heart.

You can explore the USS Alabama in Mobile Bay.  Only USN BB that allows you to crawl through main turret barbette all the way down to the keel...worth the visit brother!

My first favorite movie is another Michael Cain film, "Zulu", had a distant cousin there (Rorke's Drift)... a Welshman so you know he was no good!

Both are very good. Nelson is quite slow for T7 but has great guns.

T9 camo is a pretty terrible deal, I'd save those doubloons for T10 camo.

Having played both I'd choose Harekaze.

Zulu is right up there on my list as well...

If you like anime and DDs go for harekaze. If you like BBs go for Nelson.

I dont know much about harekaze, but Nelson is a really good BB, one of the best T7 BBs. But Nelson is also a hard BB, you need a good positioning and know how to angle.

"Bromhead, reorganize your 'flying platoon"...4 ranks with 2 'firing lieutenants' giving commands...glorious!  I actually used this overseas.  My team Seargent ( named Patton, no less)said, "Captain, what the hell are you doing"

It quelled a minor riot north of the Sava river in Bosnia in 1996.
