Listen to the song first for the melody (as if you don't already know it).

Top of my Team
(sung to the tune of "Top of the World" by the Carpenters)

Such a fear it puts in the CV
And all hail it when the ship sets out to sea
If a plane ventures by, it just shoots once and clear sky
And I'm sure that makes the CV drivers scream

Everything I want a ship to be
My Cleveland is and has been very good to me
And the reason is clear, it's the best ship of the year
It's the finest weapon that I've ever seen

I'm on the top of my team lookin' good as tarnation
And the only explanation I can find
Is this ship that I've found, ever since it's been around
I've thought the Cleveland was the best ship in the world

All the CV drivers know the Cleveland's name
And for killin' planes they give it all the blame
When a Cleveland appears, all the BBs wish it near
For all know of the mighty Cleveland's fame

A better ship I think I'll never find
For each match I play it's always on my mind
And tomorrow will be just the same don't you agree
That the Cleveland is best cruiser by far

I'm on the top of my team lookin' good as tarnation
And the only explanation I can find
Is this ship that I've found, ever since it's been around
I've thought the Cleveland was the best ship in the world

That's really good.

Can you do anything with this?

Thanks for the request. However that's not really a good song for a parody. Besides it can already be interpreted as a mournful tune about men lost at sea.

Many a lost ship has sunk from the golden, sunlit world into the gray waters beneath the waves and, finally, into the pitch black depths.

I've actually experienced this myself in part when scuba diving. It really gives a person a sense of just how insignificant you are relative to the ocean when you turn off your lights on a night dive and can't tell, but know, that there is a hundred feet of water above you and hundreds more below you, depths that you could well sink into if you didn't turn your lights back on and monitor your dive computer.

I am (was) a diver too.  Yes, the awesome power of the sea, but also the caress of a mother's bosom.  In a way, it's like visiting home as did Scrooge.  Part of you wants to stay.

I tossed in the King Crimson vid because I love the group and hoped it might get a few of these young gamer types to give them a listen.  Hope you enjoyed it, as I enjoy your poetry.

It's interesting that you don't even have to dive deep to enjoy diving. I once spent an entire night dive in water so shallow that I could have stood up and taken a breath. What was I doing? I had run into a bunch of bioluminescent plankton in a seagrass bed. I spent an hour sitting on the bottom in five feet of water waving my hands back and forth and watching the water light up.
