Go to the wiki HERE and download the game guide. Edited December 16, 2017 by ENO75

3,198 [WOLF5] AJTP89 Supertester 5,240 posts 4,594 battles Report post #6 Posted December 16, 2017 You have up to two or three slots for consumables (in addition to repair party, which is triggered by R). The next three can have hydro, defensive fire, radar, heal, fighter, spotter, smoke, speed boost, torpedo reload. There is no specific key for each consumable. Instead, the T Y and U keys trigger the first, second, and third slots respectively. What consumable is in each of these slots depends on the ship. You can adjust the key for the slot in the settings. For BBs, the first slot is usually heal (T), and the second is spotter or fighter (for the Missouri only it is radar) (Y). German BBs have a third slot for hydro (U). For Cruisers (USN, IJN, KMS, and VMS, but not RN), the first slot is DF or hydro (T), the second is a plane or radar (Y), and the third is heal (U). RN cruisers, DDs, and various other ships have different layouts for the consumables. The easiest way to find out is to look at what consumables you mounted, and see what the key is for it. Little surprising that I figured this out in 25% of your number of battles.

Yes I am aware of the consumable tabs, but if I use a spotter. it just does not do anything. All my builds are for attack, but on some ships I do not have the fighter option. So I fly of the spotter, all it does is fly off into the middle distance. I thought there was some key that was usable to get reports/viz from said spotter. That's it. WIth a battleship, the spotter plane extends the range of your main battery and also gives you more of a top-down perspective when you zoom out fully in binocular view. WIth a carrier, just because you send a plane out to spot doesn't mean that it is going to act any differently than any other squadron. With or without spotting you have the same top-down view. All the spotter does is detect nearby ships.

You generally can't tell the difference between a ship that your spotter / fighter spots versus something your ship spots except that suddenly a new ship shows up on the minimap close to where your plane is. The spotter allows you to see OVER smoke, and land masses as well as early detect torpedoes which can be enormously valuable. You still can't see anyone actually in smoke using planes. HOWEVER- while you can't see the actual ship it does add an additional degree of perspective that makes it easier to aim at ships in smoke when they fire. BBs with a spotter plane have been described as direct counters to RN CLs. The earlier you detect torpedoes for you or your team the better- since torpedoes stay detected for the rest of their run once they are spotted. Sending your spotter up at the beginning of battle is a waste and generally it's good to save it until you get spotted by a ship you can't see- ie: A DD. That way if it launches torpedoes at you you have a better opportunity to detect them early and evade.
