If Santa boxes come back what versions should I get

If they do have the Santa boxes this year I want to get some. My budget is 30-50 dollars, and last year you could get 1 dollar, 3 dollar, or 5 dollar versions. If they do them again, which should I get, which would be the best value for money? Do the bigger versions have a higher chance of giving premium ships or something? What would you say to do? I’d want to get the 5 dollar ones but then I could only get 6 of them if I only spend 30 dollars, is it better to get the 3 dollar ones? Just which version is best, if they keep the system from last year?

Pretty sure it was actually $3, $5, and $10 boxes.

But regardless, I think most people will tell you quantity over quality.

I heard somewhere that the 3 dollar versions were the best, 10 of them for 30 dollars sounds nice, but I’m worried I won’t get any ships. But I heard that last year the drop rate for ships was crazy, do you think they might decrease it this year if they sell them again

I bought a few of each last year and felt the $3 crates were the best value. Can't say as I remember exactly why other than I remember being "let down" by the $5 crates. If what I remember is right, the $5 crates could net you higher tier premiums while the three $3 crates brought mid tiers. I was happy getting Atago, Arizona, and Ishizuchi - all from $3 crates. Also got enough dubs from repeat Emdens and crates to buy both Atlanta (at 30% off no less) and Belfast. I think I remember 2,500 dubs from a $5 crate as the best of those.

If they do the same I am all in. It looks like Santa's boxes this year though, and if the WoT premium shop is a foretaste, they've lost me. I bought single crates for friends last year and singles may not be offered.

From my actual experience the $3 were the best. Last year between gifted boxes and ones I purchased I ended up getting every premium ship I didn't already own except the Gremy and Prinze. That was like 7 premium ships from about 25 boxes. Plus decent amount of nice signals/camos some doubloons and premium time. One set of 3 boxes that were gifted to me had an Atlanta, Loyang and prem time. Not bad for $9.

I bought a few 1 dollar boxes, got the Warspite I wanted (still cheaper than the actual ship).

 

Last year certain ships were only in certain boxes, like 3 and up was I think some of the Tier 7/8/OP ships.

Oh and if you are after premium ships only buy 3 boxes or so at a time. If you buy bulk amounts of boxes you can get duplicate ships and then just the doubloon value for them. So if after lots of doubloons buy bulk amounts of boxes.

Its not about "which" to get, its about "HOW" to buy them in order to maximize your odds of unlocking premiums without having too many doubles or triples.

I don't know.  Given the paucity of 'deals' on Black Friday, along with the absence of the half off year of premium time everyone was expecting, I am thinking the drop rate for ships this year might also be scaled back quite a bit. 

Then again, I am an eternal pessimist.

World of Tanks has similar loot boxes going right now and many people seem to be getting Type 59s.

I dropped $40.00 for 25 boxes. Got 21000 gold, 12 premium days, 2,000,000 credits and a Type 59. Basically $150.00 worth of usable goods. Also gave enough ornaments to get to level 10 in the garage which had some really nice free tech tree tanks.

I purchased one box I think the 3 dollar one and got the Imperitor Nickola I I am still doing happy dances every time I look at her. Definitely hit the jackpot last year but I feel I have been paying for it since with very few super containers over the year.

Exactly, You could buy 10 $3 boxes at once and expect a duplicate ship, or buy 3x$3 boxes and not get a duplicate as WG seemed to have a system that took a snapshot of what you already had, and did their best to not give you a duplicate ship that was already in port. However, that is done at purchase, not as you open each box. It's how I ended up with enough Emden captains to field a soccer team.
