Hello,

I have been a WoT player for over 3 years now and wanted to give WoWs a try.

Loving it so far. But, I am finding that I suck at DD's, sorry to those of you I have accidently torpedoed as I learn this line.

Cruisers, , get to close get shot, stay away and get shot, haven't figured out the play style yet.

DD's & Cruisers may not be right for me but need more playing time before I make that choice.

I haven't tried CV's yet.

I do seem to be clicking with BB's so far as I am at T6 for USA and T5 for Germany.

Noob mistakes are going to happen, that just part of learning the game. But that doesn't mean I should be berate, belittle, or called nasty names which has been my experience during my 1st month of playing this game.

I Iook forward to seeing  you in-game,

Harry

Rule of thumb if you want to have a decent win rate don't do what I did and start in destroyers go with battleships or cruisers first that will save you the hassle.  Good luck to you.

I rarely see that.  Coming from Tanks, you think you'd be used to that though.

Hey, welcome to the game! Glad to hear you're having fun.

One small tip: don't launch torpedoes from behind teammates. You don't know where they're gonna go, so if there's a chance that they might turn around and drive into your torpedoes, don't launch 'em.

I thought the same thing. Overall folks are pretty nice in WoWs. Good luck OP. I am not real hot but you may want to think "Russian" in the lower tiers. Try Bogatyr. Tier 3 cruiser. You should be able to get it pretty quick. American St Louis is also a great cruiser in tier 3. Ya got to work hard not to do good in that fire breathing monster. Of course I don't know what tiers you are playing thus far.

Not concerned with win rate as much as I am with enjoying the game. I am not really a stats guy as they can be very misleading because of a poor start, as you point out. You stats can look horrible because of your initial learning curve, but, in actuality be far better then shown because of improvement in your recent gameplay. I hate people that say "you suck" based strictly on stats, its not a true picture of you as a player. My overall stats in tanks are average at best, but my recent stats are far superior because I have learned how the game actually works and my gameplay has improved with this knowledge.

Welcome to the game and to the forums. Be sure to ask questions, best way to learn. The NA community discord has players that are happy to help people learn and its a great place to find people to play with.  https://discord.gg/YXqN3xd

I will, thank you

I really have not received that many derogatory comments in the 3 years of playing tanks like I have in the month I have been here. I will admit I was a little surprised as i figured the player base here is more mature then on tanks, maybe not?

Yup, have learned that one the hard way a couple of times already. One guy actually had his Clan mate purposely sink me for making this mistake.

In my experience, the level of toxicity in WoWs is about a 1 or 2 out of 10 compared to WoT.  Not sure if you were extraordinarily lucky with the people you met in WoT or just really unlucky with the people you met here, but that's definitely not the norm.

T5 in US DD

T6 in US BB (also have the Texas & Arizona Premiums to help with training captains. Kept the T4 Wyoming(?) as it is a blast to play and doesn't see above T5)

T5 in German BB

T4 in US Cruiser

I don't minded getting smacked around in the higher tiers as it is how you learn and get better I believe.

Battleships are easier to start off in.  They are slower, but that gives you time to change your mind as you watch the mini map and decide where to position yourself.  Plus, they are very tough and will let you survive a mistake (most of the time, at least for a little bit).  They aren't very accurate, but if they hit you may get big damage.

Cruisers have a higher rate of fire...more daka daka = more fun.  But, they are more fragile and less forgiving of mistakes.

Destroyers require a considerable bit of game knowledge to be successful in.  You have to know what style of play your DD has (IJN stealthy torpedo boat, Russian gun boat, or a mix of the above?).  You have to watch your mini map carefully and plan your positioning.  You have to know your detection range and your torpedo range.  If you make a mistake and get spotted at the wrong time, you may very well not survive to correct it.  When played correctly, however, destroyers can carry a team and be VERY rewarding.

Welcome aboard, and keep asking questions!  We will have you sailing like a seasoned vet in no time!

Welcome to the game and the community!!!

I don't think stats should even be measured until you have 500-1000 battles, if a player starts out and is grinding several lines at the same time initial stats will mostly probably be mediocre. IMO looking back should've ground out all lines b4 t4. While stats shouldn't matter its the only real way of tracking our own progress and setting goals for ourselves. Just because someone has great stats it doesn't necessarily make them a great player or even a team player.

Some of the tankers in our clan have crossed over to ships on occasion as well. I started in tanks before going Beta with Warships, so it was interesting to see the differences in styles. Fortunately we've got a lot of players that help us out with ships we're less than familiar with!  Best of luck, and don't let the "talkers" steer you wide...there are always people with nothing to say doing all the talking. ;)

Former veteran WOT player. Welcome to the game. What class of tank did you like to play? DDs are lights, Cruisers mediums, BBs heavies and CVs arty. The game play is a bit slower and rewards cover and concealment much like earlier WOT as well as teamwork and strategic play. Have fun!

Welcome Harry

BBs are the easiest class to play DDs and Cruisers take a bit more to figure out,all in all situational awareness is key to DDs and Cruisers survival knowing who can shoot you now and also who can shoot you in 30 seconds so you can take evasive action and avoid, after a lot of games played you learn to walk the fine line of survival and sinking the enemy and doing damage so your team can win

have fun
