Anybody play one-handed? Or got any ideas on learning over?

Of course.  Holiday break and a few weeks off and I’m excited to get in some serious WoWS time.  Two days ago and I take a bad spill on the ice.  “Skiers Thumb” type accident and my right hand is in a cast for the entire holiday break – and I’m right handed.  So I bought the Vampire – of course, but…

Does anybody have any idea how to play WoWS one handed?  I was thinking a simple joy stick or track ball (too bad I didn’t have the Doctor mold the cast to fit a mouse).  I could aim crudely with my right (now useless appendage).  WASD like I usually do and learn to shoot with the space bar. Problem is I’d be learning all over again, and thus, a burden in matches.

Is it possible to start a new account, play PvE others at T1 who are just learning the game, just to get my fix?   It’s not like I’d be taking advantage.  No matter how you might feel about new players it probably doesn’t take them 10 mins to put on pants, and I’ll bet most can tie their shoes.

No need to do a new account, as long as you have a port slot. Just pick up a T1 for free.

I feel for you on the injury.  How long will it be in the cast?

The only semi-intelligent comment I have is on the last part.  Why start a new account?  It seems to me that you could manage PvE in a battleship at least - sail a bit with your left, put yourself on a decent heading while ctrl-Xing the cursor to the next target direction, release that while using your left to control the mouse for your shot.  Rinse and repeat every 30 seconds.  Not perfect, not up to your usual standards I'm sure, but even if you're really horrible you'll drag your PvE win rate down to, what, 94%?

honestly without the other hand I don't see how you could aim effectively and still be able to do everything else.

I think that if it is going to be several weeks i'd ask if the doc could refit the cast if it wouldnt impact the healing

I don't know how your mouse is, but you could flip the buttons on it and move it to the left side. You'd have to learn again, but I bet you'd get used to it fast. Then you can hit buttons with your right hand. Just a thought. Also I zoom with the MMB, but if you're used to shift, that would make it easier.

Also, you could pad some stats and just play PVE at low tiers on your main accout, T1 ships are free.

Funny you mention this, my dad just had surgery on his right shoulder (also right-handed). Arm in sling for a month. He doesn't game, but as a college professor he does a lot of typing. He got dictation software for his computer. Driving in the 6in of snow we have right now is also a bit of a challenge.

Guess we don't realize how much we use something until it's gone.

Might I suggest a left-handed MMO mouse? You can map the thumb keys to anything you need.

This would be the best for one-handed play.

The other option which requires no money, is to stick to low-tier battleships. They're not very maneuverable or fast-firing, so you can take your hand off the mouse to press keyboard commands while waiting to reload/the guns to turn where you're aiming.

This is true, and if you stick to USN you can go well into mid tiers and still have exceptionally slow ships...

One of my buddies had a motorcycle wreck about 10 years ago and lost the use of his left arm. The guy plays war ship with one hand and is real in dds. About a year ago my English Bulldog got in a fight with a dog down the street in our front yard. Like a dumb azz I reached in to pull the apart and got my right hand all tore up. That was on a Saturday morning. My wife had just left to go to Dallas for a week. Also right in the middle of one of the ranked seasons. I set my mouse up to be left handed and practiced in Coop for about 2 hours.

Actually, come to think of it, you could play wows with one and a half hand.

Bind 'fire' to space bar, and you will only need to look around with your mouse.

X is to switch between targets

Left Shift to zoom in and out.
Make it so that you are always 100% zoomed out when starting the match, there is a setting for this.

For the most part anyways. I'm unsure how you would ctrl+click on things to focus AA or secondaries.

Then get a vertical grip mice, which should face with your cast better.
like this one (I use this): https://www.anker.com/products/variant/Ergonomic-Optical-Mouse/98ANWVM-BA

Especially if you use the Q and E keys so you don't have to hold down the key to WASD.

And don't mock the CO. CO torp beats are real. Just don't expect the CO to be leading any charges.

Oh, never. I enjoyed my USN grind for the most part. Just really hard to get to the other flank before the battle ends if your flank wipes up the enemy team first.

That is a lot of money to spend for only a few weeks of use.

If the OP is using a right handed gaming mouse his best bet is to pick up a cheap universal mouse. and simply play the low tier cruisers and BB's

Yea, track ball for aim, thumb .  Don't  go into positions that demand alot of quick reactions/firing. Since your left hand will be your firing and maneuver hand.

Well, maybe not to the OP? Depends on how badly they want a solution and how much they like that one, eh? Plus they could always ebay it off for at least half the money back after it's not needed anymore. I'd do it if I really, really wanted to play for those two weeks with only my left hand.

Or get a right handed one too and try to figure out some weird double mouse control system. Hmm... :cap_hmm:

Well, the cast is just until January, but then we have J-term research students, so it gets busy again.  I can remap my mouse to my off hand, but then I'd have to WASD, Zoom, Shoot, and everything else with a single finger on my cast hand.  It's rather odd how heavy the cast gets just doing some hunt and peck typing.

I think you've all really helped.  I sold the S. Carolina a long time ago, I guess it's time I bought her back.  I like that vertical mouse, I may be able to use that.  If I use an external keyboard I can reach the arrow keys with the tips of my fingers letting the cast rest on my desk, and learn to aim with my left hand.

Yes, I think this may be do-able!  Thanks all for the encouraging ideas! I'm feeling more confident about this already!

I'm telling you my buddy lost the use of his left arm. Plays Wows and get along fine in every day life. Can tie his shoes with one hand. Plays DDs in game real good. I've watched him play he's methodical. Get a left handed mouse for your firing and aiming. Use your right hand for a.w.d. Practice in coop with a tier 1 ship for a couple of hours. That's what I did. If I can do it you can.

Steam has some voice command software, you could try setting that up and see if you can get it to work.
