I'd rather avoid giant circling ship-blobs of death in my games, thanks.

Ah brings back memories when I used a stock Fuso with its 14km range main guns against Tier 8 behemoths where even cruisers outranged me.

Good times.

The only major naval battles known to have occurred in recorded history more than 500 miles offshore in open water were Admiral Lord Howe's tactical victory over the French fleet under Villaret-Joyeuse on June 1 and 2, 1794, known as The Glorious First of June, essentially an 18th century mid-ocean convoy battle, and a dozen or so major convoy battles fought in mid-Atlantic 1000 miles from land during the Battle of The Atlantic in 1942-43. Almost all other known battles were fought within 150 miles of a known land mass, however small, that was either a target or had to be defended by a fleet. Most of them were fought within sight of land, in fact. Littoral warfare is what navies have always done from antiquity. That does not take away from the value of navies. Got to fight somwhere halfway around the planet? Only the Navy can get the Army and the Marines to where they need to go with enough punch to get the job done, even in the air age! As for fighting in puddles, go tell that to the crews who served and fought the ships in the battles around Guadalcanal. They don't call the passage Iron Bottom Sound for nothing!

They fixed Ocean when they changed it to Domination only rather than standard battle.  Ocean is great now.

It certainly needs more naval components ...

Give me moving icebergs

Give me night combat

Give me fog banks, rain squalls - true heavy weather (wave motion).

Give me convoys, give me minefields, give me beachheads, give me kamikazes, give me high-altitude bombers, give me AI submarines ...

Give me something to stop thinking of this game as World of Tanks on a lake...

If you're looking for Ocean you need to be playing Tier 8+ and have lots of luck on your side because last I knew WG made it a Tier 10 map and changed its map rotation rate to almost non-existent. Ocean is by far one of my favorite maps and I miss playing on it.
