So, you may have heard of the Falcon Heavy, a reusable rocket system made of three Falcon 9s

Well, the test flight has finally be scheduled for Early January, done on SpaceX's own wallet as a demonstration launch for potential buyers. Usually on these launches, a boilerplate is sent up, a mass simulator.
Elon just announced a couple hours ago what the Falcon Heavy's test will carry... and folks, this is real...

Yeah... he's gonna put his car into Mars orbit...

He'd better check his damn targets and his damn firing solution. I hope he doesn't just 'eyeball it' or anything like that.

I for one applaud Mr. Musky's plan to send people to Mars.

There are dozen, no hundreds of people I would love to see moving to Mars.

I love how he adds "if it doesn't blow up on ascent" like he's not totally sure it wont. xD

Bloody brilliant that guy. =P

Well, yeah! It's the first-ever launch of a new rocket, there's always a chance it won't work. But unlike the layman on the street, Musk values failures more than successes, you can't really learn what the problems are from a success~

“If things are not failing, you are not innovating enough.”
— Elon Musk

Besides, he likes explosions as much as the next guy, and the road to success is often paved with broken bits of rocketry~<3   Next month we'll either see the fastest car ever made or Musk laughing his [edited]off as he fishes his car out of the Atlantic.
In the meantime, have some explosions~!

I love the fact he is putting his money where his mouth is, well I know it isn't all his money but a good chunk of his own and his reputation to investors also which helps pay for this

The first launch of a rocket doesn't always work (and it isn't a good idea to use it for a serious payload on the first try, see also: Ariane 5). This way he can prove it's Mars capable, do a nice publicity stunt for two of his companies at the same time, and have a good laugh while doing it~

I just love how he is not afraid to poke fun at himself and his failures;

"Well technically it did land....just not in one piece."

"Now that wan't an explosion...just a rapid disassembly."

makes me laugh every time.

Yes, and it cites an earlier vid.  Did you not watch it?

Well, the guy is silly, but I found the content pretty interesting, not having followed the program closely.

As for your original title, drunk genius is still genius.  I'm trying to figure out, genius at what?

BTW, for a state (Texas) that doesn't allow non-dealership new car sales, I see a lot of Teslas on the road.  Most are beautiful. (not real thrilled with the Model X)
