Yes, Yamashiro was the second Fuso class.

Though really they were more different than you might think, there was almost as much difference between Yamashiro and Fuso as there was between the Fuso and Ise classes pre-rebuild.

Yamashiro:

Hyuuga (Ise class):

The difference between Fuso and Yamashiro is mostly in the #3 turret orientation and superstructure, the difference between the two Fusos and the Ises was the #3 turret and funnel having switched places.

@Lert Thanks, the diagrams and your follow-up text helped me better comprehend the differences.

Wow! Much excite! I hope they'll do a big live TV show like they did for Indy!

Great sonar image!

Yamashiro was also the prettiest of the group.

Are they absolutely sure it's Yamashiro? Just looking around online I can't find much.

As both Fuso and Yamashiro went down at Surigao Strait.

Fuso sank about an hour earlier than Yamashiro, and many accounts of the battle say that Fuso was broken in half with the bow and stern sinking separately.

Survivor testimony has otherwise though. The bow/stern break was claimed by allied ships, and may have been because of the fuel oil fires in the water.

Japanese survivors claimed Fuso sank intact after around 45 minutes of flooding, with fuel oil fires everywhere. Capsizing intact and going to the bottom.

Fuso's 3rd turret points forward, because that's where they intended to mount the catapult. It turned out that the catapult was too short anyways, and there was enough room on the aft deck for the catapult to be mounted.

Since there was a bit of a funding issue and delayed reconstruction on Yamashiro, the forward facing 3rd turret was flipped around, after it was known the above issue was dealt with.

If I remember correctly

And that was confirmed when RV Petrel discovered Fuso's wreck this week.
