Well the Washington was classified as a fast battleship. A little ship called Kirishima was rudely introduced.

How many ships did the Massachusetts get credited for at Casablanca? The Jean Bart was disabled, two merchant ships and two French destroyers were sunk but I don't know who got the credit.

Oops, a light cruiser went down too. I just looked at my old books.

A USN fast BB other than Washington and Iowa actually sank a ship during WW2? I was honestly unaware of that, since they spent virtually all their time in transit, shore bombardment, CV screening, and forming useless lines of battle for The Great Jutland of WW2 that never actually happened.

**Ships in question were Kirishima and Katori.

Yes, there is another which is credited with multiple ships.

Massachusetts disabled Jean Bart's one operational turret, rendering it hors d'combat. However, since Jean Bart was restored to operation within 48 hours I don't think we can count it. (Also, Jean Bart was subsequently sunk by dive bombers from USS Ranger)

USS Washington is credited with sinking Kirishima and Ayanami at the 2nd Battle of Guadacanal (though it took until next morning for Kirishima to finally sink).

USS Iowa landed the final hits on Katori (though admittedly other ships inflicted damage first), and USS New Jersey sunk Shonan Maru no.15 in the same action

USS North Carolina sunk an AK during the bombardment of Roi.

Regarding the action of 17Feb44, my understanding is that Akagi Maru was sunk by dive bombers shortly before Mitscher called off his air squadrons for fear of hitting Spruance's ships. And Maikaze was sunk by naval gunfire from Minneapolis and New Orleans.

Almost there.

Massachusetts, along with CA Tuscaloosa, was credited with the destroyers Fougeux and Boulonnais, and the CL Primauguet.

Thanks for the digging and great answers, folk!

USS Wisconsin sunk 15 boats and demolished the Khawr al-Mufattah marina during Desert Storm but since you asked about WWII, I'm pretty sure it doesn't count.
