How will secondary armaments function?

Word on the street about the secondary and AA guns in WoWS is that they will be AI controlled. But what does this mean? Does the player designate targets which the AI then shoots at until told otherwise? Does the AI act on it's own discretion completely? Can I tell my secondaries to only shoot at bombers, or destroyers, or perhaps enemies inbound for friendly ships? So what I am asking is, how much level of input will the player have in operating the secondary and AA guns? Can anyone guess, or tell me what they think?

Well it has been discussed allot around here and may even be on the FAQ. You chose the ammo for the secondaries AA or Anti surface and designate a main target and they will shoot to their hearts content. Otherwise if they cant shoot the main target or you have not set one they will shoot what worries them most.

You give them a primary target if you think it's needed, but the guns will shoot what they consider to be the most dangerous target first otherwise. Even if you assign a primary target, they will shoot at them without you needing to be concerned about firing them yourself.

They have stated that the second armaments will be AI function. They also said you can set targets for them to fire at. The large armaments will all fire at where you select!

Sounds awesome :) probably will take up a lot of server space, but WG is very smart :)

Sounds great. So if I want, I can tell my 5 5 inch and 40mm mounts to shoot at destroyers to save on ammo for the big guns? Cause, I don't want to be wasting my high caliber shells (Which are likely to be expensive) on ships which can't even bounce 20mm fire. Also, just the thought of firing every single weapon of, say, an Iowa or North Carolina class ship at an enemy feels glorious. (Also, maybe for the NC your ships chief mechanic can say, "Were on fire. No wait, false alarm. We just are shooting alot.) :Smile-_tongue:

Nah, the AI idea with the guns is good because you don't want to be dueling it out with your main guns and have aircraft sweep down that you can't do anything about.

I just realized how many RNG rolls even a second of AA fire is going to take up...eek
