MM again

I think it is time to have the +/- 1 debate again. (This is in hope of billions of players from Steam). I would love to see this happen. I have been playing WoWS since Dec '15. I live on the West Coast and have sleep issues so I play a lot when server counts are low and full of sheep shaggers. Unless I play a T9 or 10 with less than 3500 on, I rarely ever wait longer than 30 seconds to a minute. Can WG at least make MM +/- 1 when server pop is over say 5000? Can we at least test this one for a day or a week?

The counter argument has always been the playerbase is to small and que time will be too long. Which no one is making, so I must be beating a dead horse here and/or I'm an idjit, so I will make it for the forum :)

How hard would it be to program MM be +/- 1 when server is busy? And again, why not test that theory on the main server for a day or two to see what it would do to que times, because this isn't something a test server would be able to help determine, I dont believe.

Without a complete rebalance pass this could lead to more overpowered ships. For an example look at the Imperator Nikolai which before the 3 - 5 MM change regularly saw tier 6's as a tier 4 and was considered to be overpowered and is now even more overpowered without the higher tier ships to at least somewhat reduce the overpower. Every ship will get a bit of a buff but any ship that is even slightly OP'd will become even more OP'd.

Now this is something I did not think about. But the reason I want +/- 1 is I think there are some really under-powered ships when uptiered in the +/- 2 we currently have. In T5/6 and T8 there are ships that suffer greatly because of it, especially. Maybe its time for a top to bottom rebalance, WoWS ver 2 so to speak

If this is the 1,000,000 time, do I win a prize? I should win at least 1 day of premium! Beside if it keeps getting made, maybe there is a reason.

WoT's population is many, many times higher than WoWS... and they still don't have one tier spread MM.

Have they tested +/-1 to see its effect on que times? Is there a quote from WoT's programmers saying that this will negatively impact que times or gameplay? If they haven't then your argument is irrelevant

Not arguing, pointing out that its NOT going to be done, ever, period. It's been debated back and forth over in WoT for like 6 years now. The two tier spread is here to stay. WG will never change it, so there is no need to discuss it.

as someone said last thread, this is why they went to steam, because they cannot retain players past 5, since the new players get uptiered and frustrated.

And before anyone says anything, Im fine with MM atm, im used to being uptiered in T8 ships.

Sounds like they need to increase credit/XP earnings so people get up to the higher tiers more quickly. WoT has a similar problem, but it's with tier 6 instead of tier 5... b/c they have dozens of premium tier 8s.

I hear ya. But since it comes up over and over and over it iI believe it is a big a problem for player retention

I cant even get my friends past the fact that they can't have flags, camos and Captains for a 70-100 games or so, and they refuse to play it because of it. This game is inherently cruel and unfair to noobs.

Agreed there. I have never understood the whole "leveling up" part at the very beginning. Start at tier 1 and turn people lose.

tbh they really dont gave any reason for me to go to t10, yeah i can have good games and make some money at t10 with my russian dds, but why do that when t 6-8 have less ship cost, and pay well if you have a stellar game. I know their model is to make money by people spending to grind to t10 but theres no reason when theres decent to amazing ships in most lines in the middle tiers. I think in general, the xp system should be revamped to motivate people to play the objective more.

Playing at higher tiers loses money... it's designed specifically that way. It forces people to play lower tiers or buy premiums in order to bankroll the higher tier ships.

IMO another big problem with this game is their stupid method of only releasing premium ships for a limited time. There are premiums I'd buy today if I had the opportunity, but they are unavailable... that's money WG isn't getting. If they want to put the "Loaded" and "Ultimate" bundles out for a short time only that's fine, but the ship itself needs to go into the shop PERMANENTLY. If Steam is supposed to get us a big influx of new players they need to be treated to a whole host of ships to spend their cash on.

I don't know I kinda like this, a sort of backdoor reward for being a longtime veterans of the game. I missed buying the Onkitdinkedink (however its speeled)  Russian DD and I am kinda of mad about that tho :)

But I thought the objective here was to get NEW players into the game quickly... not to reward players who just happened to be here and have money to spend during the few days that a specific ship is on sale.

Its the game mechanics that screw with newer players more than what premiums are available. I am almost certain, and would be willing bet large sums of money on it, that every new player starts this game with the intention of not spending money on this game, just like I did. I still refuse to buy the Trip (besides the fact I suck at BB) because of how expensive it is. I do see your point that it might effect retention of players with over say 1500 games (figure pulled from rear).

I believe a lot of new-ish players would relish the opportunity to buy higher tier premiums to help in their climb up the tree.

Tirp is expensive, but IMO its worth every penny. The main guns are on the mediocre side, but it's got excellent armor, good speed, world-beating secondaries AND torps. What's not to love? Do a full secondary build on it and tear DDs and cruisers to shreds if they get inside 10km.

Yea I won the Bismark and put a 19pt DD capt repec'd to secondary build. Holycow, it is just amazing thing to behold Over 11km range is just wrong! lol

Also that is where WG gets most of my money, screwing around with Captains! Which is why I loved the elite Capt XP change WG made awhile back. It is why I am still playing this game, so it was good for my retention (so far) at least.

There's literally no downside to +1/-1, and several upsides that would make player AND developer lives less stressful in relation to this game.

No proven downside, anyway. Just a bunch of assumptions, hyperbole, and fearmongering spread around by the people who like being +2 tiers and bullying players who can barely fight back, using "It's even worse in Tanks!" as justification for not changing anything.

The game will continue to bleed players from tier 5 and 6 until something is done to improve the matchmaking experience. Either +1/-1 for every tier-- or +2/-2 for every tier. Whichever decision is made, all tiers need to be treated the same. A protected range only creates problems.

Thought a one month forums ban was the prize for this thread.
