Anyone else notice this with the USS KIDD

Maybe it’s just me but the Kidd seems to take citadel damage lol   I’m no newbie to DD’s and this ship just seems to take more than normal damage  don’t get me wrong I like the ship but something “seems” off. Anyone else notice the same ?

From what I’ve seen of her she does seem to have a very wide hull, as does Fletcher, Gearing, Grozovoi, etc. It’s not suprising that they share a common weakness, although rumor has it that a change to AP shells vs DD is currently in supertest so theres that

Confirmation bias. There's no citadel hitbox, it doesn't take any more damage than Fletcher.

I hit a Kidd for ~11k from 17k plus yesterday in my Montana.  It does take penetrating damage as 2 of the shells I landed caused full penetrations and three were over pens; needless to say, he succumbed shortly thereafter.  

 

I have had a lot of fun with Kidd.  I just seem to draw a lot of tier 10 matchmaking, where subpar torps are no match for opponents of the higher tiers.  The heal can keep you up in a knife fight!

Except Fletcher is a T9 that takes more damage from AP than the Benson would, hence what the OP was trying to say.

It doesn't take citadels, but it's wide enough to eat 33% damage hits from shells if you give your opponent a favorable angle. At least for now.

Fletcher and Sims are my two most successful USN DDs with Gearing in third place, close behind.  I was going to pass on the Kidd before they added the repair party, defensive AA got buffed and fire duration on DDs got reduced.  Haven't played Kidd yet but I hope what you say pans out.

Gearing is fourth from bottom with a whooping 49.51% WR on the USN list and 2nd from bottom among all T10 DDs

The Z is more sturdy and its Hydro makes it a better cap contester. Groz is better as a gunboat. Gearing has better torps for sure, but that extra damage (that is most likely going on BBs) is not going to win games. I think this is the main reason that it has such a poor WR.

 

It is a very good DD to Div with though

What I have noticed is with a full AA build ship and Capt, MM protects CVs from it much like it protects from the Atlanta with the same build. Its freaking disappointing, this is the last AA flavored premium ship I buy because of the way MM protects CVs from them.

Gearing has best smoke in game and great detection with amazing torps. She is well-rounded with plenty of advantages. Its just that many potatoes go for her/ shima to start with and they lower her stats with their potatoness. (Along with most American dds)

This is why I see her as a good Division ship. It is a great support ship. But in random, it is not the DD hunter it used to be, and it is not that good in a cap when a Z or a groz is nearby. Imo

Sounds like a Sims but with only half the torps.   Is it a knife fighting demon?   What makes it worth buying in your opinion?

Other than that though, she's a beast. But you have buy her pretending she has *no* torps. The torps are a secondary if there ever was one and while, if you have learned that the SIm's has the most dangerous torps in it's tier you will appreciate the Kidd's, she's a gunboat. I do not echo LWM's attitude that it's hard to put damage totals up, I've been averaging 68,604.30 damage per match (10 matches in her so far), which is a bit ahead of my Fletcher at 56,947.82 damage per match, over 400 games in. If you aren't firing your guns, it better be because you are trying to hunt and unseen DD. But once all enemy DD's are killed, your guns should be talking non-stop. Once you learn how to lead at 11km, you'll find yourself being extremely useful. For one, it keeps enemies at bay, as no one likes taking constant, even non-damaging shots. For 2, if you use IFHE (which you should since you are a good little gunboat captain), you can turn all Cruisers in the game into free damage sinks. Most won't chase and only a few represent problems (high velocity gun ones like the Moskva/Donks are to be avoided).

Overall I bought her because I love the Fletcher as a gunboat and wanted a Prem one with better MM'ing, which is exactly what the Sims is.

As a long time DD player there has been a definite increase in severity of AP damage to DDs.  Basically, a buff to AP and yet another nerf to DDs.
