Duca D'Aosta For Sale Today and Tomorrow... My Thoughts...

So, just took her out stock. No upgrades, no enhanced captain. Saw her on sale in the shop (hint: WG, why not let us know with a few announcements when you're releasing these for limited-time sales?). I could have gotten the loaded option for the 2,500 extra doubloons and lots of papa papa flags, but decided against it.

So, stock, $24 package, no skill captain.

First fight was a win, though I didn't contribute much in the way of kills or damage (only 11k). However, even stock she has some very nice attributes. Speedy as all get out, wonderful maneuverability, soft, but to be expected with cruisers. Plus, even stock her sigma and dispersion is lovely, just lovely. My greatest asset to the team was stifling two enemy destroyers from destroying our own destroyers (there's a joke in there about DDs, but I'll let it go), and holding up the enemy push with my sea mines.

I might go with Torpedo Acceleration for the first time with this machine. We'll wait and see. For now, though, I'll have to think on ways to improve some of her other attributes (and no, not with plastic surgery, she's beautiful enough just as she came into my port).

Those long range torps got me into trouble once or twice.  I've learned to be extra careful where I fire them...

But 12 kilometers...... -giddy-

Must correct for likelihood of moronic team mates rolling into them...

You can actually get two torp salvos in the water at the same target before the first ones hit.  I love my Duca d'Aosta, although with the announcement of Abruzzi, I'm not sure that D'Aosta is the better purchase.  If I didn't already have D'Aosta, I'd have to really think about whether I wanted to buy that or wait on Abruzzi, which has better MM at T7.

Yep, the range is nice.  But at 51 knots they are in the water a long time (88 sec) if they miss the target...

I've been that guy, believe me, on both ends. Not intentional, I assure you. But you do feel bad about it. Hence why I'm debating acceleration. Would decrease it to 9 kilometers (sad panda), but better speed and burns out quicker.

I'm already muddling it over and looking at my funds...

it doesn't help that I have a 19 point captain in my D'Aosta that would seamlessly fit in Abruzzi.  Is it going to be different/better than D'Aosta enough to justify the purchase?  That's the hard question.  I'll be checking out the LWM reviews and certain youtubers reviews as well.

I earned one of my few pinks with her.  TA has been recommended, I may try it on mine now that I have been reminded of it and take advantage of the respec discount:

"The tremendous range of these fish makes Torpedo Acceleration an interesting skill choice. This increases her torpedo speed to 56 knots while reducing their range to 9.6km. With the 1.0km surface detection, enemies have no more than 6.9s to react . This really helps Duca d'Aosta perform well in a brawl where these fish can be used more aggressively."

I actually like the long range fish.  the D'Aosta eats t5 BB drivers alive who think they are not threatened, and fail to WASD enough, and I can do it while cloaked haha

Another premium ship that requires a specialist Commander in order to be effective, but no Commanders are offered in the bundles. That's a marketing fail WG.

I have a good many torpedo hits with this ship.  I think the majority of those were unaimed...or aimed at one shp and hit someone else.  Surprisingly, several DDs in the mix.  I don't recall ever hitting a friendly, but you have to be extra cautious because they are so frikin slow a DD from the other side of the map could intercept them.  It's also unnerving to get the hit message when so much time has passed that you hardly remember shooting them.

She is also a very good harass ship with the spotter giving her good range.  But those shells float and don't do much damage.

Not quite there. Right now sitting at 10. Been doing some grinding. But it might be time for some Italian grinding since I got Cesear.

As soon as I bought it, I dumped 14 points of Elite captain exp into it.  It was much easier to start off that way!  Now I am saving for my Vampire skipper, as sad as that may be.

Well I don't have a 19 point skipper yet. Almost there with my Des Moines skipper then my next closest is my FDG skipper then Hindenburg.

I cheated.  I power-leveled a russian captain way way back.  I would play a game in my Kutuzov, get my bonus, then move him to my Molotov for the bonus, then to the Gremyachy, then to the Murmansk, then Nik, then the Aurora.  I didn't have the Diana yet lol.  All of that was after I got the exp bonus from the tree ship I was leveling.  It was the commander from my Murmansk originally, so he's had a lot of time to collect exp.  Once you get the first one, the elite exp piles up quickly.  The more you have the faster you get more.

I can do that with the US. Atlanta, Indianapolis, Sims, Arizona, Texas, Ark Beta.

And I can REALLY do that with the Japanese with all the ARP ships, Kii, Kamikaze, Ishizuchi, Misaka, Tachibana, and Katori.

Tbh, if someone just wants to accumulate skill points rapidly on an Italian captain, Cesare is the way to do it. She's fantastic, to the point where I honestly feel on par with tier VI BBs in her.

D'Aosta's a great ship, regardless. The torps are slow but stealthy, giving some of the lowest reaction times in the game. The AP is great against cruisers, and she excels at running down and killing DDs.

No, the moronic team mates are the ones who loose 'em off without insuring that their team mates are not endangered by them. They're YOUR torpedoes and therefore, YOUR responsibility.
