Hi guys, this is my first post on the forums and well, I've got a bit of a story to tell. Everytime I play carriers I get absolutely destroyed, I've watched almost every single carrier tutorial out there, implemented the tactics presented and have still had no luck getting even decent. The end of my battles usually end with the enemy carrier typing in chat  to "Go sell your carrier you trash heap" and some people on my team mentioning to kill myself. I want to become good at carriers and I play them as much as I can but every time I play I can only get about 5 torps off the whole battle do to being constantly matched up against AS US carrier players. Its no longer fun for me to play carriers. Does anyone have any tips for how to get better? Thanks.

Could you post a replay of you playing cvs this might help more experienced players give you advice.

CV's are broken right now, quote from WG and they are broken in both directions. Hard for a novice to understand and OP as heck for a player who knows what they are doing. I suggest training in Co-Op, staying at lower tiers and generally ignoring those give you flake.

maybe either not play carriers anymore or see about a few more vids...
I tried them and stopped at tier 4, and I only did it so I would know a little about how it works, AND because a few missions last year needed a few carrier things done....

and don't worry about the crap talking whiners.... they prolly suck at carriers... but at least you are wanting to try harder...

good for you man,... keep at it..

1. Your team expects you to dominate the sky, shut down the red cv, and spot wherever they want you to spot.  Always expect the negative comments, even in games you get clear sky and kraken.

2. Looking at your stats on warships today, your Langley win rate is low at 26%, with below average damage and below average plane kills.  This may mean that you were not familiar enough with the basics of cv play before moving the the next tier.  (This isn't like moving up a BB line -- the next tier cv does demand new skill sets.)

3. Also from your stats, you had zero games in your tier 6 cvs in coop.  I'm not sure if there is anyone who can really get good with manual drops, and strafing (the ALT attack which starts at tier 6) without a lot of practice.

My suggestion to you:

1. Take the Langley back into coop, and practice auto drops and defending your fleet until you feel comfortable with it.  Then take the Langley (and only the Langley) back into random battles until your win rate & damage improves with your additional experience.  If you can, division with another player who is familiar with cvs to give you some realistic and constructive comments.

2. Keep the Independence and Ryujo in coop only, while practicing your manual drops.  When you are more familiar with the tier 4 and then tier 5 cv play, move up to tier 6.

3. You can post a replay for comments, if you'd like.  Perhaps we could do a coop game together, or even training room.

Thanks for the advice guys, I would post a replay but my game won't record them for some reason. That's okay though, thanks for the advice.

My CVs are parked until I can spend a lot more time in Coop developing my skills, so I can relate to your frustration.  I came across this video of Aerroon driving a carrier (Hiryu) during some Historical Battles in WOWS (Mar 29, 2017).  Thought you might find it as interesting to watch as I did.  Gave me an insight into what a good carrier player does during a battle.  The (long) video is a replay of the battles (3) from Aerroon's game client:

I would recommend getting a 10pt captain and building them for CVs or just reset them that's what I did because of seal clubbers.

OP, I can't grasp CV play at all.  Most of the time I find myself sending karma points to CV players...just because they can have a massive effect on the match...and because it's a mystery to my "black shoe game".

Don't give up.  Maybe stick with Co-op until WG figures out how to balance CV's, or more importantly, the population of CV players increases to the point "game balance" becomes a priority.  if I was even remotely capable of grasping CV play I would do it.  I think everyone will agree that a CV master can have a profound effect on a match.  What is needed are more CV masters, and the only way to make that happen is obvious.

If you are bad? Stay at low tier until you get better.  That is totally acceptable.  And yes there will be players that are salty.  The first time I got a "go back to Co-op" response I pm'd with a request for instruction.  I received a lengthy lecture on what I did wrong.  It was not a "coddling" response but it helped me immensely (and was a damn sight less hostile than anything I heard four decades ago in San Diego).

I'd ask you to stick it out, but if it isn't fun, remember there are plenty of other ships in the sea.

I don't play CVs. Their very hard, as well as broken and unbalanced right now. WG has said this, and that they will fix them Soon.

However, if you're determined, play the lower tiers in coop until you understand the mechanics. Then starting at T6 come the ALT attacks. Master those in Coop. Then you can go out in random. You will probably get pounded for a while. Anyone who has stuck with CVs, is going to be good. CVs are not newbie friendly. Once you get the CV mechanics, then comes knowing which ships are no fly zones (anything with an American flag), map awareness, and the high level of strategy needed to master the sky. It's hard, but if you succeed, you will absolutely become the best asset your team has. There is nothing more scary in WOW, even for a AAA ship, than an excellent CV player on the enemy team.

Practicing in Co-Op is good, and sticking to the t4s till your very comfortable.

Carrier play in Co-op is super fun. It gives you a chance to grind upgrades (albeit at a slower rate) and your captain. IMHO you should have at least a 10 point captain in a carrier, 12 is much better, before you attempt PvP with one. If you must play PvP, I would advise using Langley only once you get a good handle on everything. She really is a great boat with a 10 point captain and fully upgraded.

Also what AJTP says is great advice.

First rule of CV captain don't read chat people are ......... in this game..

What wins games is DD support protect your DD's from being spotted and spot there DD .  That is what wins matches

2nd is air superiority. You have not made it to tier 7 so strafing  has not become big but it will.  How it works is have a fighter 10km near your 1st  fighter squad, tie up his fighters with you 1st squad , strafe on both of you with 2nd squad , and then 1 fighter squad exit strafe out of the way. That's for advance users

3rd is damage::: for heavy AA matches group up all damage together  and do one alpha pass, on low AA matches  you can stager damage for dots with fire and torps.

4th play sober if you come up to a strong CV capt one slight mess up  = loss of air;  and micro managing intoxicated don't go together  believe me ......

Last no matter how good you are everyone wants you to be there bodyguard they do not relies you can not be everywhere at once focus on the main priority's first, you play for your team not individuals..........

Good Luck

That's a horrid rule. Just block the jerks but sometimes your team can provide helpful insight. I often request the CV spot a DD in a cap so I can pounce on them, or spot some torps. I also will alert the CV if I spot a snipe inbound or see a DD hunting them down as I know they can miss these things.

You see all, after playing awhile you should know what to, spotting  and plane placement  is your priority. You shouldn't have to rely on people  who don't play CV  to dictate your hand. To be honest 80 % feedback of people in matches are  asking for AA support why they  sail by themselves far away from objective and then when they die bash the CV captain  while you are playing spotting for objective.

But your are absolutely right asking to spot a DD is helpful in a perfect world but that not always the case and that not the only thing you see in chat. Its just not worth it in my opinion.

First tip to play with carriers: ignore the chat, people gonna hate you ever game (sometimes love you but is rare)

They gonna remove the AS loadout to USN cvs, so... have hope and wait some time.

1) for now, only play the Langley. It has the easiest introduction, and things will only get more difficult. So don't move on until decent in the Langley.

2) work on increasing the number of planes you shoot down. If you are engaging/being engaged by enemy planes over enemy AA, stop that, at least for now. Low tier AA is weak, but it's not nothing. Don't give the enemy CV an advantage. At the same time, try to engage enemy planes over friendly AA. Also, try to keep your fighters near the contested caps, ships fighting there matter more, so protect them with fighter cover and attack the ships they're engaged with with your bombers.

With time, you'll reduce the amount of time it takes you to get a strike off, so your losses will go down.
